Switzerland and Serbia faced each other in the final group game of Group G. It was essentially a knockout tie with the winner of the game advancing to the round of 16 along with Brazil. The Swiss side took the lead through Xherdan Shaqiri in the 20th minute, firing home from the right side of the box. It took just six minutes for Serbia to equalize as Aleksandr Mitrovic headed home Dusan Tadic's cross into the bottom corner. Serbians took the lead in the 35th minute through Dusan Vlahovic to give hopes to Serbian fans of progressing to the knockout stages. Just before the half-time, Switzerland found the equalizer through Breel Embolo as Murat Yakin's men work the ball down the right and Silvan Widmer fires the ball for Embolo who makes no mistake. In the 48th minute, Remo Freuler gave the lead to Switzerland as the Swiss side came back from one goal behind to take the lead. Switzerland looked in control after that and rightfully earned the round of 16 spot.
