PSG will be hoping to claim their 6th competitive title for the 2025 calendar year. The Parisians won the treble -- UEFA Champions League, Ligue 1 and Coupe de France before winning the French Super Cup and UEFA Super Cup.

Although they missed out on winning the FIFA Club World Cup earlier this summer, losing to Chelsea by 3-0.

PSG qualified directly for the final by winning the 2024-25 UEFA Champions League. Under Luis Enrique, they secured their first-ever European title with a dominant 5-0 victory over Inter Milan in the final.

As European champions, they earned automatic qualification.

Flamengo’s journey was way tougher, involving three stages of grueling match-ups.

After winning the Copa Libertadores, they entered the "Derby of the Americas," defeating Mexico's Cruz Azul 2-1. They then secured their final spot by winning the FIFA Challenger Cup, defeating Egypt's Pyramids FC 2-0 with goals from Leo Pereira and Danilo.

We are underway for the all important FIFA Intercontinental Cup 2025 final between Europe's PSG and South America's Flamengo.

The Parisians start from left to right and nearly scored the opening goal in the 3rrd minute.

Joao Neves was very close but he hit the side netting.

PSG punished Flamengo right at the start of the first-half and what a goal that from Fabian Ruiz. Terrible mix-up between the Flamengo defenders, the push the ball back before their goalkeeper cleared from the line.

However, the ball fell right in front of Neves and he passes it to Ruiz, who attempts a left-foot into the empty net. But after a review, the referee has given a corner as the ball went out of play during the build-up.

Things have settled down a bit after Fabian Ruiz's opening goal got cancelled in the 7th minute. Flamengo are pressing forward with intent now and have started dominating the midfield all of a sudden.

PSG regain control after a short but lively flash by Flamengo, who had a shot saved by Safanov, left footed strong shot by Erick and the PSG goalkeeper has to make the dive for the save.

The referee shows an yellow card to former Juventus player Alex Sandro for a challenge on Desire Doue. PSG's Brazilian captain Marquinhos makes a strong interception as Sandro sent in a powerful cross inside.

Flamengo are working well but retaining the ball in the final third has been a problem.

Fabian Ruiz has been booked for an unnecessary and aggressive foul on Alex Sandro. Ruiz put an high boot on Sandro and the referee isn't happy.

Lee Kang In is walking off the pitch in what appears to be a niggle. Academy product Mayulu.

It cannot be denied this time as PSG go 1-0 ahead against Flamengo in the finale. Energetic run from Paris, Mayulu finds Doue down the left from the centre, and the latter sends it inside to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who slides to net the first goal.

Three minutes have been added on to the clock for the conclusion of the first-half. A little bit of interruption due to fouls and pauses.

PSG are well on their way to winning their 6th major title of 2025 as the first-half finishes 1-0 in their favour. Flamengo have reacted well but haven't been able to threaten the Parisians with a goal here at the Al-Rayyan Stadium.

It will be interesting to see how Flamengo react in this 2nd half against Paris Saint-Germain. The first five minutes after the start has been all about the European Champions, who have kept their intensity high.

After trying to bypass Mendes near the penalty area, De Arrascaeta’s run on goal is ruled out for offside.

There was a possible penalty check against Marquinhos, who stuck out his boot and brought the Flamengo number 10 down inside the penalty box.

Former European Champion Jorginho is ready to take the penalty.

Jorginho scores his 5th goal as a Flamengo player as he buries it down the right through his classic skip and jump style to help the South Americans equalize, 17 minutes into the 2nd half.

Marquinhos will look back with regret but PSG now have to march forward to take the lead once again and they have some encouraging news from the bench as Ousmane Dembele gets ready to come on.

Jorginho keeps his nerve from the spot to level things up, igniting the Flamengo fans in Qatar. Twenty minutes remain, can either side find a winner before extra time?

Flamengo roll the dice with a triple change, bringing on Niguez, De la Cruz and Everton for Pulgar, Jorginho and De Arrascaeta. Fresh legs on as they push late, but just one substitution remains.

Huge threat averted for Flamengo, who nearly conceded the second goal but the ball somehow stayed out. Nuno Mendes was involved in the build-up as he charged forward and found Ousmane Dembele at the centre.

Chances opening up for PSG now.

We are four minutes away from heading into extra-time in this game. PSG have failed to make an impact whatsoever, despite creating a lot of chances to score.

It remains fairly equal between PSG and Flamengo in the regulation time of 90 minutes and both the head coaches are on the field to give the final instructions as we head into extra-time.

No movement at all in the scoresheet as it remains 1-1 despite PSG's surge forward. As it appears, Felipe Luis has given clear instructions to Flamengo about laying low and defend deep.

A scoreless opening half of extra time has pushed both teams to the brink of exhaustion. The flair is gone. Now, it’s just a matter of 15 minutes. They must find the net now, or face the ultimate test of nerves from the penalty spot.

Ousmane Dembele's shot flows over the bar and that just sums up how the night has went for the Parisians. Nothing has worked out for them and Flamengo are happy to sit back and defend deep here.

Dembele with another chance in the 115th minute but the shot lacks direction.

The final whistle blows and we are on for a penalty shootout here at the Ahmed bin Ali stadium in Qatar. It's time for the goalkeepers to receive the instructions and the outfield players, they will have to hold on to their nerves.
