- N.R. Srivastava was transferred from DIG (anti-corruption) to DIG (intelligence) for a day. He was then directed to take over as DIG (railway police). He lasted in this post for a few hours before he was ordered to take over as DIG, Chitrakoot dham. He hadn't even reached the town when he was transferred as DIG (security), only to be posted back again as DIG (railway police). Five transfers in six days.
- Ramlal Ram, IG, Gorakhpur, was posted as IG, PAC. Before he could begin on his new assignment, he was sent off as IG (power corporation). And there too, his taking over was pre-empted by a transfer order appointing him as IG (administration) in Lucknow. Four transfers in six days.
- But the unceremonious shunting out of chief secretary Ajay Prakash Verma on May 23 takes the cake. Verma was holding a meeting of officials when D.S. Bagga, Kanshi Ram's favourite, walked in and announced that he was the new chief secretary. Verma had to hand over charge that very day before midnight. Bagga, who was on deputation to the central government, had flown in to Lucknow with Kanshi Ram to supersede five others to the top job.
