Greta Gerwig is making a comeback in filmmaking with 'Barbie' after a gap of 4 years. Starring Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie, the movie has been creating a lot of buzz. It is all set to hit the screens on July 21. In an interview, Greta opened up on directing 'Barbie' and the challenges she faced.

As per a report in Pinkvilla, she told that making 'Barbie' was a fun challenge for her. She said she grew up with Barbie, but she was always 'waiting for her neighbors’ children to grow tired of theirs so they would give her the hand-me-down Barbies'. "That was the big thing I was always looking forward to. I have a very vivid, visceral memory of Barbie and what it meant," she added.

Gerwig further said, "Barbie has so much recognition, so much love, and of course a 60-plus-year history, which was exciting for me. As a writer and a director, I’m always looking for a fun challenge".

"As with 'Little Women', 'Barbie' is a property we all know, but to me, she felt like a character with a story to tell, one that I could find a new, unexpected way into, honoring her legacy while making her world feel fresh and alive and modern," said the actress turned filmmaker.

'Barbie' also stars Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, America Ferrera, Rhea Pearlman, Helen Mirren, Will Ferrel, Ariana Greenblatt, Connon Swindells, Jamie Demetriou and Ann Roth among others.
