Kiran Rao's bride-swapping comedy-drama "Laapataa Ladies" was in news earlier this year as the official entry for India's 2025 Oscar submission. And now, the movie has found itself amid plagiarism accusations resemblance to the 2019 Arabic film "Burqa City."

"Laapataa Ladies," which was selected from a pool of 29 films, stars newcomers Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastav, and Chhaya Kadam. Based on an award-winning story by Biplab Goswami, "Laapataa Ladies" features a screenplay and dialogue by Sneha Desai. It captures the charm of rural life and is primarily shot in the villages of Dhamankheda and Bamuliya in Madhya Pradesh's Sehore district. Outlook Traveller looks back at the places that served to give the film its organic visual quality and what they can offer to travellers.
