Why Top IIT Placement Packages Will Not Be In Public Domain From Now On

The top placement packages of IITians may shroud in mystery from now on.

This has come to fore after the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are mulling not to disclosing the highest annual packages in their placement reports, IE reported. 

As per the report, the IITs will now focus on mean and median salary figures in their annual placement reports.

The decision, as per the report, has been taken during a recent meeting of the All IITs Placement Committee (AIPC).

The report said in the meeting, the recent placement report from IIT-Bombay placement which claimed over 85 offers surpassing an annual package of Rs 1 crore is said to have been discussed.

What is AIPC?

The AIPC comprises heads of career development or training and placement cells of all 23 IITs in the country as members.

These members meet at regular intervals to share their recruitment experiences and problems.

IIT-Bombay placement package report case:

According to the TOI report, on January 4, IIT-Bombay had announced that the first phase of placements.

The institute, as per the report, saw a total of 1,340 offers. 

It further added there were 85 offers of annual salary packages surpassing Rs 1 crore, marking a significant increase from the 25 such offers made last year. 

The average annual salary package also increased from Rs 23.26 lakh to Rs 24.02 lakh, the report claimed.

The report mentioned in a corrigendum issued on Wednesday (January 10), IIT-Bombay revised the number of Rs 1 crore-plus salary packages in the first phase of placement to 22.

The clarification cited "technical error" for the wrong data, it said. 

The report stated AIPC meeting was held a day after the announcement.
