The certification is granted by an international jury comprising representatives from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), the Denmark-based Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). In alignment with the global Blue Flag initiative, India has launched its eco-label, BEAMS (Beach Environment & Aesthetics Management Services), to promote sustainable beach management.
