Predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall from 22-24 August, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh. According to the weather office, heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, is likely to cover places including of Kangra, Chamba, Hamirpur, Mandi Bilaspur, Solan, Shimla, and Kullu today.
In light of the current situation, the Sub Division Magistrate, Dharamshala, issued an order stating that all educational institutions at Dharamshala in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh would remain closed today i.e. on 23 August, an per media reports.
It has also been told that all educational institutions and Anganwadis in Shimla district will be closed on the 23rd and 24th of August.

Torrential rain continues to cause traffic disruptions
Incessant torrential downpour has also caused massive traffic disruption at chakki mod near Parwanoo for safety reason. Accordingin police, in a bid to avoid congestion, traffic may be diverted from alternative routes.
The effect of the monsoon will remain until August 27 in Himachal Pradesh. After that, the weather is expected to be normal, as per media reports.

Several places of the northern state of Himachal Pradesh have been devastated by landslides this year causing a signficant amount of damage a lot of damage.

Machines have been deployed in areas where there is a possibility of landslides or road closures, an official said.
