The Government is in the process of reviewing the Medical Device Park scheme to enhance support beyond infrastructure, Ravindra Pratap Singh, Joint Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP), Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, said today.

Speaking at the session on ‘Strengthening India’s Medical Device Parks: Roadmap for Global-Standard Manufacturing’ on the second day of the ongoing India MedTech Expo 2025 here, he elaborated on the Medical Device Park (MDP) scheme, aimed at creating an enabling ecosystem to address cost disadvantages faced by manufacturers.

“Currently, three Medical Device Parks are operational at Gautambuddha Nagar (Uttar Pradesh), Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh), and Kanchipuram (Tamil Nadu). The department has been actively supporting the development of common infrastructure facilities at these locations. Civil works are near completion, and plot allotments have commenced.”

“We are also in the process of reviewing the Medical Device Park scheme and are looking at what more can be offered apart from the infrastructure,” Singh assured the industry representatives present on the occasion.

He also urged the medical devices industry to fully utilise the schemes and funds available under the department to boost manufacturing and innovation in the sector and highlighted the range of schemes supporting the manufacturing of critical components, raw materials, skill development, clinical studies, common infrastructure, and industry promotion.

“We have yet to fully exhaust the funds available under these schemes. The industry needs to come forward with robust proposals when the next round of applications is announced,” Singh said.

Dr. Jitendra Sharma, Managing Director and Founder CEO of Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ), stressed the importance of developing MedTech Parks as scientific ecosystems rather than mere land banks, urging collaborative efforts to position India as a manufacturing superpower in medical technology.

Rakesh Kumar Singh, CEO of Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) and Medical Device Park, Uttar Pradesh, presented details of the 350-acre park, highlighting ecosystem facilities and incentives, including capital interest subsidies, SGST and EPF reimbursements, employment incentives, air cargo handling charge waivers, and freight incentives for MSMEs and non-MSME units.

At the same time, Dr. Alarmelmangai, Executive Director, SIPCOT, Tamil Nadu, outlined the advantages and facilities offered by the Tamil Nadu Medical Device Park and invited industry participation.

In another session on ‘Global Regulatory Submission’, Aseem Sahu, Deputy Drug Controller, CDSCO, and a UK regulatory representative made presentations on regulatory frameworks in India and the UK, expressing commitment to streamline approvals for medical devices.
