Along with Crawley, Joe Root scored a sensational fifty as well to take England to a dominant position. England are 384 for four with 67 runs ahead going into day three. For Australia, Mitchell Starc struck early to scalp the wicket of Moeen Ali.

Zak Crawley's 189 came off 182 deliveries that included 21 fours and three maximums.

Josh Hazlewood and Cameron Green took one wicket each. 

Earlier, Chris Woakes took a five-wicket haul (5 for 62) as England bowled out Australia for 317 runs in the first innings.

Mitchell Marsh and Marnus Labuschagne scored 51 runs each for Australia. England skipper Ben Stokes had won the toss and opted to bowl.
