India Vs New Zealand, ICC World Cup 2019 Semi-Final, Highlights: Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni Heroics In Vain, NZ Enter Final

New Zealand produced a magnificent bowling performance to defeat India by 18 runs in a rain-affected World Cup semi-final on Wednesday. The Black Caps will face the winners of Thursday’s semi-final between England and Australia in Sunday’s final at Lord's. After opting to bat first, New Zealand finished on 239/8 with skipper Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor scoring half-centuries. Their bowling attack then turned the game around, taking three wickets in the first 19 balls with Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul all dismissed for one. However, India got themselves back in the game courtesy a superb 116-run seventh-wicket partnership between MS Dhoni (50) and Ravindra Jadeja (77). Once these two departed, India’s hopes were dashed and they were eventually bowled out for 221 with three balls remaining. Get highlights of India vs New Zealand here (SCORECARDFULL COVERAGE)

20:15 hrs IST: That's it. Thank you for joining us!

Kane Williamson: "Yeah, it's a different playing - the way he had to skin it through the round-robin. Great semi-final over two days and very pleased to be on the right side of it. It was really tough and we had to assess the conditions. Both teams thought it would be high-scoring, we thought we could get 240 and put India under pressure. Lot of contributions from everyone. A lot of it was on the conditions and the rain around. We just wanted to put the ball in the good areas and put pressure on India. We just wanted some early wickets and it was great start for the bowlers. We needed to stay in the game for long periods. The way Jadeja and Dhoni were hitting the ball, they were likely to win, but our fielders were then outstanding."

Virat Kohli: "The first half we were spot on. We got what we needed in the field. We knew we had a good day yesterday, we felt like we had the moment, but the credit has to go to NZ bowlers. The swing and help they got from the surface - the skill from them was on display. Jaddu had an outstanding couple of games. He went with so much clarity, MS had a good partnership with him. It was a game of margins and MS was run-out. 45 minutes of bad cricket puts you out of the tournament. Difficult to take it - but New Zealand deserve it. Our shot selection could have been better, but we played a good standard of cricket throughout. New Zealand were braver in crunch situations and they deserve it."

Matt Henry, Player of the Match: "Look, we talked about just making we do the best we can and play the way we can. He started out with the ball and just tried to create pressure. We just had to ask a lot of questions against the best batting line-up. I thought we managed to scrap it out. We had the belief - we knew we had to bowl well. Obviously, they are world-class batsmen - Hardik, Dhoni and Jadeja - we knew to win the game we had to get them out. It's very special and thanks to the New Zealand supporters out there."

14:32 hrs IST: Less than half an hour until the resumption. This is going to be exciting!

14:20 hrs IST: New Zealand have 23 deliveries left and would ideally want at least another 40-50 runs. Of course, it won't be easy given that Bumrah and Bhuvi will complete the proceedings.

14:05 hrs IST: As of now, the weather looks fine. But there's a threat of more rain as the day progresses

England seem primed to win their maiden title but it will take a special effort to upstage arch-rivals and record five-time champions Australia in the second World Cup semi-final at Edgbaston, on July 11 (Thursday). England have turned it around following their first-round exit in the 2015 edition and have become a formidable one-day side.

13:21 hrs IST: In case it rains today and no play is possible, India will qualify for the final on the basis of finishing at the top of the table while New Zealand had ended up in the fourth spot. Likewise, if the second semi-final between England and Australia also gets washed out even after the Reserve Day option, Australia will make it to the final having finished second (England ended third).

13:04 hrs IST: In case we have a 25-over game, the target would be 172. In a 30-over chase, India would have to chase 192.

12:48 hrs IST: The game will restart from where it stopped with the Kiwis aiming for a score in excess of 250. India, on the other hand, will be looking to get rid of Taylor early.

12:41 hrs IST: In case the rain returns, we'll keep waiting before DLS kicks in to have at least a 20-over game.

12:32 hrs IST: Hello folks. Welcome to our live coverage of the first semi-final between India and New Zealand. Only 46.1 overs were possible on Tuesday. Hopefully, we'll have a result today.

After a brilliant start by Bumrah (1/25 in 8 overs) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1/30 in 8.1 overs), Ravindra Jadeja (1/38) and Hardik Pandya (1/55) did well in the middle overs to keep the opposition under check. Kiwi opener Martin Guptill (1) was removed by Bumrah with Virat Kohli taking an excellent catch at second slip.

Kane Williamson (67) looked compact in his defence along with the edgy Henry Nicholls (28 off 51 balls) during their 68-run second wicket stand.

Such was the impact of the first spell bowled by Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar that New Zealand’s innings never gained momentum. While Jadeja got the better of Nicholls, Pandya, who struggled with an injury, had James Neesham’s scalp. Taylor upped the ante after the 40th over before rain stopped play.

23:24 hrs IST: That's it. Join us tomorrow for live action. Goodbye!

22:41 hrs IST: The three umpires are out there. Inspection on. We'll have an update soon.

22:31 hrs IST: It's drizzling again!

The cut-off time for a 20-over chase is 23:05 IST. Final inspection at 22:40 IST.

22:00 hrs IST: The rain has STOPPED! The umpires are out for an inspection.

21:56 hrs IST: The forecast isn't promising for tomorrow either. If we don't have any play (tomorrow), India will enter the final because they finished the league stage at a better position than New Zealand.

21:33 hrs IST: BAD NEWS - The rain has picked up. Assuming a 20-over chase, India's innings must start around 23:00 IST. For that, the groundstaff needs at least an hour to get the ground ready.

Peter Handscomb believes Justin Langer's decision to have Australia's players walk around the Edgbaston outfield barefoot has helped bond the squad.

Langer labelled himself as "a bit of a hippy" when he took over as Australia coach and he provided an example of his alternative methods when he directed his team to walk on the ground where they will face England in Thursday's Cricket World Cup semi-final without shoes and socks.

21:02 hrs IST: We have officially started losing overs considering there's a resumption today. We will lose one over for every four minutes.

21:00 hrs IST: The sun's out but still raining. Covers on.

20:32 hrs IST: GOOD NEWS - It's a lot more brighter. Slight drizzle. But we'll start losing overs from 21:00 IST.

20:15 hrs IST: The intensity of the rain has reduced. That's the only news we have you for now.

Australia downed England in the group stages of this World Cup, but Joe Root is confident that both recent and distant history have the tournament hosts ready for revenge in the rematch. England lost to their fiercest rivals at Lord’s last month and looked in serious danger of missing out on the semi-finals at their home tournament.

But back-to-back wins over India and New Zealand turned the tables and have put the No.1 ODI side in world on a collision course with Australia at Edgbaston in the second semi-final on Thursday.

19:38 hrs IST: Still raining. Doesn't look good (for now). Hopefully, the situation will improve.

19:13 hrs IST: JUST IN CASE....

19:04 hrs IST: Rain has gotten heavier. Could be a long night. We'll keep you posted!

Remember, if semi-final is washed out, team ranked higher in league stage goes through.

18:48 hrs IST: If New Zealand didn't bat again in their innings, India's target would be 237 (DLS) in 46 overs

Covers are coming on. The rain has become heavier. We can wait for as many as two hours before starting to lose overs.

18:30 hrs IST: Only seven runs off Bumrah's eighth. New Zealand are 209/5 after 46 overs. Taylor 65*, Latham 3*

18:24 hrs IST: OUT! Slower bounce from Bhuvi does the trick. De Grandhomme departs cheaply (16). Tom Latham comes to the crease. What an over! A wicket and just five runs. New Zealand are 202/5 after 45 overs

18:17 hrs IST: Big over for New Zealand, 18 off it. Chahal hasn't been that effective today. New Zealand are 197/4 after 44 overs. Taylor 56*, De Grandhomme 16*

18:12 hrs IST: Nine off Pandya's final over. He finishes with 1/55. New Zealand are 179/4 after 43 overs. Taylor 44*, De Grandhomme 12*

18:07 hrs IST: Eight off Chahal's penultimate over. New Zealand are 170/4 after 42 overs. Taylor 42*, De Grandhomme 5*

18:03 hrs IST: OUT! Neesham gets a leading edge and Karthik, at wide long-on, completes the catch without any trouble. Finally, some success for Pandya. He has been good today. Colin de Grandhomme comes to the crease. New Zealand are 162/4 after 41 overs

17:57 hrs IST: Boundaries have been hard to come by. New Zealand are 155/3 after 40 overs. Taylor 38*, Neesham 7*

17:52 hrs IST: A wicket and 26 runs off the last 30 deliveries. New Zealand are 151/3 after 39 overs. Taylor 36*, Neesham 5*. Bumrah comes back into the attack.

17:47 hrs IST: Pandya doing a smart job. Banging the ball in short. Slower bouncers never easy to hit. New Zealand are 145/3 after 38 overs. Taylor 31*, Neesham 4*

17:42 hrs IST: Very good over from Bhuvi, four off it. New Zealand are 140/3 after 37 overs. Taylor 29*, Neesham 2*. Pandya comes back into the attack once again.

17:38 hrs IST: OUT! Tossed up from Chahal, Williamson looks to hit it to off-side, but it sticks in the surface and the Kiwi skipper gets an outside edge. Simple catch for Jadeja at backward point. Big wicket! James Neesham comes to the crease. New Zealand are 136/3 after 36 overs. Bhuvi comes back into the attack.

17:33 hrs IST: FOUR! Williamson picks the gap and slog-sweeps it through mid-wicket. Much-needed boundary for New Zealand, who are 133/2 after 35 overs. Williamson 67*, Taylor 24*. Jadeja ends with 1/34.

17:28 hrs IST: Super over from Bumrah, just three off it. New Zealand are 125/2 after 34 overs. Williamson 60*, Taylor 23*. Jadeja to bowl his final over.

17:21 hrs IST: Wonderful over from Jadeja, one off it. No margin of error. New Zealand are 122/2 after 33 overs. Williamson 58*, Taylor 22*. Time for drinks!

17:17 hrs IST: Outstanding over from Bumrah who is back for his second spell. Only one off it. Taylor is really struggling here. New Zealand are 121/2 after 32 overs. Williamson 57*, Taylor 22*. Jadeja comes back into the attack.

17:10 hrs IST: Single and that's a half-century for Williamson - 39th in ODIs. Great innings this under pressure. Important thing is whether he can convert this to a big one. New Zealand are 113/2 after 30 overs

17:06 hrs IST: Six runs off Pandya's sixth. New Zealand are 105/2 after 29 overs. Williamson 48*, Taylor 16*

17:01 hrs IST: FOUR! Fuller delivery from Chahal, Williamson down on one knee and slog-sweeps it in the gap between mid-on and deep mid-wicket. Expensive over from the leggie, 10 off it. New Zealand are 99/2 after 28 overs. Williamson 44*, Taylor 15*

16:57 hrs IST: Just six off the last 12 deliveries. Pandya back in the attack too. India haven't given away a boundary in the last overs. New Zealand are 89/2 after 27 overs. Williamson 39*, Taylor 10*

16:50 hrs IST: Stupendous over from Jadeja, only one off it. New Zealand are 83/2 after 25 overs. Williamson 36*, Taylor 7*

16:48 hrs IST: Jadeja and Chahal keeping things tight. Get a feeling something is going to happen here. Either of Williamson or Taylor needs to go for big shots. New Zealand are 82/2 after 24 overs.

16:42 hrs IST: A wicket and 16 runs off the last 30 balls. Pandya back on the field. New Zealand are 77/2 after 22 overs. Williamson 34*, Taylor 3*

14:11 hrs IST: The all-important toss in 20 minutes

14:06 hrs IST: The Old Trafford stadium has been made a "No Fly Zone" for this clash, an action prompted by a private plane displaying anti-India banners during the team's league encounter against Sri Lanka in Headingley. The decision has been taken after consultation with the local authorities, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has informed the BCCI. -- PTI

13:55 hrs IST: PLAYING CONDITIONS FOR PLAYOFFS - Extra 120 minutes permitted beyond the regulation close time (1800 hours local). Beyond that, if the match referee thinks a result is possible on the day, he decides accordingly.

1975 - Manchester match-up (First World Cup meeting between India-New Zealand)

Coincidentally, it was also at Old Trafford that India and New Zealand first locked horns in a World Cup. In a Group A meeting that India had to win to make the knockout rounds, they could only manage a total of 230 from their 60 overs, Syed Abid Ali clubbing a late-order 70 to get them there.

And when Glenn Turner anchored the Black Caps’ chase with an unbeaten 114, victory and a semi-final spot was theirs with four wickets and seven balls remaining.

13:40 hrs IST: WEATHER UPDATE - Cloudy, overcast but NOT raining

13:30 hrs IST: New Zealand looked on course to cruise into the last four after winning five straight games, but they lost their way towards the end of the group stage and were fortunate Pakistan did not click into gear until late on. But what matters now is how they perform on the given day.

13:19 hrs IST: Since the ICC U-19 World Cup 2008, Kohli and Williamson have scored 33,840 international runs and have 99 centuries between them, and now they go head to head for a place in Sunday's final against Australia or hosts England.

13:10 hrs IST: Rohit Sharma (647) is 26 short of Sachin Tendulkar's record tally of runs at a single World Cup - 673 in the 2003 edition.

13:03 hrs IST: Kane v Kohli. Fight of the "Bs". Here's a look at the player battles

12:56 hrs IST: New Zealand have won just one of their seven World Cup semifinals (against South Africa in 2015)

12:50 hrs IST: WHAT THEY SAID -

India captain Kohli on his reunion with Williamson: "I'll remind Kane [about 2008], I'm sure he remembers. It is quite a nice thing to realise that 11 years later we are captaining our respective nations again in a senior World Cup from Under-19s."

Black Caps skipper Williamson: "I think for everybody it sort of starts fresh tomorrow after what was a very tough round-robin stage, and we were certainly expecting that it would be tough. It's just a great occasion to be a part of. I know the guys are really excited by the opportunity to go out and try to play with that freedom that when we do gives us the best chance."
