A baker attacked over half dozen persons in South Kashmir district of Anantnag with his lathi leading to death of three including his mother and two others on Friday morning.
Politicians and locals allege that he was drug addict and held growing drug addiction in the valley responsible for the incident. The police told reporters the attacker has been taken into custody. The police have not come up with a formal statement on the issue.
Former MLA from the area Altaf Kaloo described the attacker as drug addict.
“The drug addict killed three and injured six people. The deceased have been identified as M Amin Shah, G N Khadim and his own mother,” Kaloo said. Kaloo sought compensation for the victims.

One of the wounded Ghulam Hassan Rather rather said his son Javed Ahmad attacked him with lathi and then attacked his relative and mother.
“He turned like bear and started attacking all. He attacked me. He turned mad. I don’t know what happen to him,” Rather told reporters.
He said that he tried to raise alarm and invited others to stop him.
“But no one came forward as he was attacking everyone ferociously. He dragged his mother along and I have heard he has killed her too,” Rather said.
The BJP described the incident as “very sad and heart-wrenching.” The party said “mentally challenged man Javed Hassan Rather attacked several persons in which three people have lost their lives. I am deeply saddened by the loss of precious lives,” the party spokesman said.
