Earlier, India's imaging and content creation industry did not have an established framework of standards or best practices for operation. There was a massive disparity between the prices offered by different sellers compared to the variable quality of the products/services they sold to their customers. Areas beyond major metropolitan cities faced great challenges in obtaining equipment of an acceptable standard on a continuous basis. This inconsistency led to a breakdown in trust among users, thus motivating the creation of StudioBackdrops.

StudioBackdrops began with 100 products and with the intent to provide any person who works in the imaging and content creation industry with quality, dependable equipment. Studiobackdrops entered the imaging equipment market when many manufacturers faced three key problems: a lack of verification on the products they sold, an uncertain pricing structure, and an absence of any quality control measures. Founder & CEO of StudioBackdrops, Archisman Misra, experienced these hardships first-hand and understood that there was a dire need for a company that would provide not only transparency but also high quality on a rapidly growing product line with no existing structure or guidelines in place.

Using his extensive knowledge of imaging equipment, he initially directly addressed the issues faced by consumers, allowing StudioBackdrops to establish a level of credibility that was uncommon for new brands. This approach created confidence and built relationships with larger customers, including production houses and e-commerce brands that were looking for a stable marketplace that currently was anything but!

Early Expansion and Building a Category

In its first two years, StudioBackdrops' early expansion included onboarding many international brands recognised for their quality and reliability. In 2019, Studiobackdrops extended its portfolio by acquiring Backdrops4ever and Baroque Studio. By adding these two new brands, StudioBackdrops filled a large void in the marketplace by providing locally manufactured products to a global marketplace.

With the COVID-19 lockdowns driving an increase in content creation across the globe, StudioBackdrops had the one thing the industry lacked: a comprehensive and reliable shipping solution. While nearly every sector was facing supply chain issues, StudioBackdrops experienced a 4100% increase in its e-commerce sales in 2020, and the growth has not slowed since. In addition to the growing need for content creation, this growth was supported by the creator economy (which is continuously growing) and the brand's consistent customer support.

Previously, one of the greatest hurdles to obtaining imaging equipment was the lack of access; while larger cities had all of the available options for good-quality imaging equipment, smaller cities did not have the same access, and many were left without good-quality imaging equipment. In order to solve this problem, StudioBackdrops developed a system of dealers and distributors in India. By 2025, the brand will have established over 200 offline dealer points, many of which are located in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. This system allows all content creators, no matter where they are located, to obtain reliable imaging equipment in a timely manner.

Homegrown Solutions

In 2023, StudioBackdrops introduced Indus Papers, the first seamless paper backdrop business in India, which became extremely successful. In 2024, StudioBackdrops produced IndusLite, an alternative type of high-quality seamless paper backdrop, based on customers' needs and usage patterns. By creating and selling Indus Paper, and now IndusLite, StudioBackdrops has shifted its focus from being solely a distributor of products to being a builder of product categories through home-grown brands.

Similarly, StudioBackdrops has transformed AriesX, a brand initially introduced in 2018, and completely revamped between 2022 and 2023. Today, AriesX is the largest and fastest-growing manufacturer and supplier of lighting and studio solutions in India, proving that StudioBackdrops has the ability to build and grow brands in response to the needs of the marketplace.

With their extensive experience in building and deploying brands in every category of product they sell, StudioBackdrops has built an extensive inventory of brands, including Synco, Savage, Superior, CarryPro, and Rimelite, as well as their 4 sub-brands, and their various international partnerships. They have grown from a company with 100 products to a company that has more than 6500 SKUs in its inventory.
