Starring: Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif
Directed by Raj Kumar Santoshi
Rating: **

For me, the interval in Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani seemed too long in coming—a sign of a film failing to hold you in its grip. Despite the promise of wholesome madness, it is long, dull and boring with just a few funny moments. The silliness is not sublime enough. Raj Kumar Santoshi’s storytelling is old-worldly, harking back to Jo Jeeta Wahi Sikander and his own Andaz Apna Apna. But their charm is missing. Our hero is an idler, head of the Happy Club and specialises in getting lovers together. Then, he falls in love and goes on a crazy ride. Ranbir Kapoor is charming in balmy moments, like the comic dancing scene, or when he dons Katrina’s top and claims it as his own. He is effortless in song-’n-dance sequences. But the emotional ones, like when he is praying in the church, are too cutesy for comfort. The obvious lack of acting talent and that accent don’t come in the way of Katrina in endearing herself to the crowd with a smile. Definitely not a comeback for Santoshi, only a display board for the new-age stars.
