Climbing up a volcano through a dark, muggy rainforest in the middle of the night may not be everyone&rsquos idea of a good time, but just in case it is yours, we can report that it is matchless for the thrills it provides. Concentrating on one&rsquos steps, lest a slippery stone sends you sliding out of control whilst hanging onto a torch and camera bag for dear life, you can easily miss the throbbing forest life. Suddenly, the corner of your eye catches a slight movement and a flash of your torch illuminates a brilliantly coloured caterpillar. Or your guide stops you near a tree hollow and points out the bright yellow and black beetles feeding on glistening-red bracken fungus.
