Kelly Clarkson has openly acknowledged her struggle with severe depression, which has led her to seek therapy.

The 41-year-old talk show host shared her mental health update in the most recent edition of People magazine, which was published on Wednesday.

It appears that after her divorce from Brandon Blackstock, with whom she shares two children, Kelly Clarkson found herself in a difficult emotional state that persisted for seven years. One of the things that has helped her cope during these challenging times is her music.

'The level of depression and things that come with divorce or grieving is extraordinarily hard,' she told the outlet.

'You feel alone, and it's just a blessing to be able to have that outlet for those emotions that are overwhelming.'

Releasing 'Chemistry' was like 'Taking My Power Back'

The process of creating her song "Chemistry" played a significant role in her healing journey.

'I didn't see it other than: This is my outlet. I'm a let-go person; I don't hold grudges. So it was really delving into what happened in my life and why—and what am I going to do about it?' she admitted.

'I cannot express how appreciative I feel for having that kind of healthy outlet.'

Releasing new music made her feel like she was 'taking my power back,' Clarkson emphasized.

Moving To New York City Was Exactly What She Needed

'That sounds very therapy, but that's because I love therapy, and I think it's important to have those tools to navigate your life and relationships.'

Her decision to relocate from Los Angeles to New York City for the fifth season of her show proved to be a positive change that helped improve her well-being. She expressed that the move was exactly what she needed.

'They were a little nervous, but it was their idea, not mine,' Clarkson said.

River performed a duet of her mother's single "Heartbeat Song," while Remington showcased his dance moves to "Whole Lotta Woman."

As her children witnessed their mother captivating the audience, Clarkson recalled, “I was like, ‘I feel like how you’re looking at me is how you watch Spider-Man.’"She added, “It caught me completely off guard, and it was the most magical moment because they were so happy and at ease. They were just in awe.”

Her career is currently thriving.

"Chemistry" became the 41-year-old artist's 12th album to enter the Billboard 200 chart and her ninth to secure a position within the top 10. The album reached its peak and made its debut at No. 6 on the chart dated July 8. The album has also received a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album.

Additionally, her talk show has achieved significant success with six wins at the Daytime Emmy Awards, including recognition for Outstanding Daytime Talk Series and Host for Clarkson.

Furthermore, her Las Vegas residency has expanded with additional shows scheduled throughout the winter season.

As she creates her own support system as a single mother in New York City, Clarkson, who also serves as an ambassador for Wayfair, expresses her profound appreciation for fresh starts. She remarks,  “Sometimes you don’t know what life has in store for you, and you think your life is going to go one way, and it’s OK that it doesn’t."
