The Rashtriya OBC Mahasangh organized a rally in Nagpur on Monday, addressing a range of concerns. One prominent issue was their objection to granting Kunbi certificates to the Maratha community, primarily in the context of reservations. They have made it clear that their protest will persist until the Maharashtra state government initiates a dialogue and offers a written commitment to their demands.

The rally, which commenced from Samvidhan Square and proceeded to the collectorate, saw the active participation of notable figures, including Vijay Wadettiwar, the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, former ministers Anil Deshmukh, Sunil Kedar, Nitin Raut, and Ashish Deshmukh from the BJP, PTI reported.

This organization, representing the interests of the Other Backward Classes, has been engaged in protests since September 10. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis met with them on Saturday, urging them to reconsider their stance. However, the Mahasangh remains resolute in its demands.

Baban Taywade, the president of the OBC Mahasangh, conveyed that they had submitted a memorandum containing 135 demands addressed to the governor at the collectorate. They intend to sustain their protest until they are invited for discussions and receive a written commitment regarding their demands.

The state government is currently deliberating on the possibility of granting Kunbi certificates to Marathas under specific conditions, such as requiring documentation dating back to the Nizam's rule in Hyderabad (up to 1948).
