For years, travellers passing through the Delhi–Agra highway have largely seen Kosi Kalan as a convenient pause between larger destinations. That is now set to change. Marriott International has signed an agreement with Espire Hospitality Limited to open the JW Marriott Kosi Kalan Resort & Spa, a luxury retreat that will introduce one of the group’s most recognisable premium brands to a town better known for its proximity to Mathura and Vrindavan than for high-end hospitality.

Scheduled to open in January 2029, the resort signals a larger shift in India’s hotel landscape, where luxury brands are increasingly looking beyond metropolitan centres and established holiday circuits. With domestic travellers seeking immersive experiences closer to home, and spiritual destinations attracting a more affluent traveller than ever before, secondary markets like Kosi Kalan are beginning to move from stopover points to destinations in their own right.
