Today IPL Match Score | IPL Schedule 2024

The Indian Premier League, now one of the most lucrative sports leagues in the world, started with eight teams in 2008. The opening match at M Chinnaswamy Stadium witnessed an unbeaten 73-ball 158 from Kolkata Knight Riders' Brendon McCullum against the designated hosts, Royal Challengers Bangalore (now Royal Challengers Bengaluru). The weight of that innings proved too much for RCB, who collapsed for just 82 runs in response to a 223-run target.

A difference of 140 runs did alarm the purist, but the very next day, at Chepauk, two teams aggregated a total of 447 runs with Chennai Super Kings beating Kings XI Punjab (present-day Punjab Kings) by 33 runs. Australian batting titan Michael Hussey helped himself to an unbeaten 116-run knock in 54 balls. But a seemingly nondescript team led by spin great Shane Warne, without really intimidating their opponents, won the inaugural edition. Yusuf Pathan, the all-rounder, did the star turn for Rajasthan Royals in the final against Mahendra Singh Dhoni's Kings.

Fast forward to 2024, 10 teams compete for the biggest prize in the franchise club competition. Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants are the two latest additions, and the Titans have in fact won a title. There were a few more teams which tried to make a permanent stay. In between, Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians have won five titles each. Kolkata Knight Riders have won twice. And every IPL fixture continues to provide riveting storylines.

Rishabh Pant recovered from a horrific car accident to lead Delhi Capitals. Hardik Pandya took over Mumbai Indians captaincy from Rohit Sharma, but could not take the team to the play-offs. Meanwhile, the Sunrisers Hyderabad openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma have smashed multiple T20 batting records. With that, here's a look at the complete IPL 2024 schedule.
