Daniil Medvedev will contest the Australian Open 2024 Final against Jannik Sinner after the Russian beat Alexander Zverev in a five-set semi-final thriller. Medvedev trailed his opponents by two sets to nil early in the game but fought back remarkably, levelling the tie in successive tiebreakers before taking it in the fifth. The trophy bout, meanwhile, evaded Zverev, who failed to surpass his previous best finish in the competition. (More Tennis News)

Seeded third in the Men's Singles tournament, Medvedev committed five double faults en route to a 7-5 loss in the first set; he surrendered the second even more cheaply, dropping key games at crucial junctures to allow Zverev to take an unassailable 6-3 win with him into the next set. The Russian tennis star, however, refused to give up. His back against the wall, Medvedev took Zverev to a tiebreaker in the third, which he won 7-4.

A similar story unfolded in the fourth set, where Medvedev hung onto the faintest of hopes of making it through to the Final. The set went to a tiebreaker again, with the third-seed repeating his feat from earlier in the evening by beating Zverev in the seven-point game.

Momentum on his side, Medvedev held his ground against Zverev in the fifth set, forcing his opponent to commit unusual errors, before breaking his serve midway. After four hours and several minutes, he finally completed his remarkable comeback, beating Zverev 6-3 and taking the match.

Earlier in the day, Italy's Jannik Sinner booked his place in the Men's Singles Final after beating top-ranked Novak Djokovic in a four-setter.
