On Thursday, an earthquake hit Tokyo and its surrounding areas, causing minor damage and injuring several people. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the quake was 5.4 magnitude and had its epicenter in Chiba prefecture, southeast of Tokyo.
No tsunami warning was issued.
The Kyodo news agency reported that four people were injured, including a man who was hit by a falling ceiling light.

Japan is no stranger to earthquakes, being one of the world's most earthquake-prone countries. In 2011, a massive earthquake and subsequent tsunami devastated the nation, killing thousands of people and causing a catastrophic meltdown at the Fukushima nuclear plant.

Since then, Japan has taken numerous steps to improve its infrastructure and disaster preparedness in order to minimize the damage caused by future earthquakes.
