No Radiation Detected After U.S. Strikes on Iran’s Nuclear Sites, Says IAEA

The deputy director of the Atomic Energy Organization and the head of the National Nuclear Safety System Center in Iran, Reza Kardan, said “no radiation contamination or nuclear radiation has been observed outside.”

The United States attacked Iran’s nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan on Sunday. U.S. President Donald Trump said that the facilities have been obliterated, while the Iranian officials mentioned that the attack's damage is superficial.

Iran has formally requested an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council to condemn recent U.S. airstrikes targeting its nuclear facilities on June 22.

NASA’s Fire Information for Resource Management System (FIRMS) showed two heat patterns near Iran’s Fordow nuclear facility, first heat signature was detected at 6.59 PM ET, with a second detected at 7:24 PM ET.

Both heat signatures were detected before Trump first announced the strikes in a post on Truth Social at 7:50 p.m. ET.

No additional heat sources have been observed near Iran’s Fordow facility since Israel’s strike on June 13.

NASA’s satellite system, which monitors global thermal activity like prolonged fires, recorded no anomalies in the area. FIRMS timestamps indicate when data was captured—not when the heat events actually began.

The deputy director of the Atomic Energy Organization and the head of the National Nuclear Safety System Center in Iran, Reza Kardan, said “no radiation contamination or nuclear radiation has been observed outside” the sites and facilities hit by the United States.

“Preliminary plans had been made and measures had been taken to protect the safety and health of the dear people of the country, and despite the criminal actions this morning in attacking nuclear facilities, due to the previously planned measures and the measures taken, no radiation contamination or nuclear radiation has been observed outside these sites and facilities,” Kardan said, IRNA news agency reported.

“People can continue their normal lives in the areas around these sites without any worries,” he added.

The United Nations' nuclear watchdog body, International Atomic Energy Agency, said on Sunday that no increase in off-site radiation levels at the three Iranian nuclear sites targeted in U.S. strikes has been reported.

“Following attacks on three nuclear sites in Iran – including Fordow – the IAEA can confirm that no increase in off-site radiation levels has been reported as of this time. IAEA will provide further assessments on situation in Iran as more information becomes available,” it said in a post on X.

Since the outbreak of conflict with Israel, Iran has stepped up its criticism of the IAEA, accusing it—without offering proof—of siding with the U.S. in recent strikes. The IAEA, for its part, insists it remains an impartial international watchdog.
