Oscars 2023: 'Naatu Naatu' From Indian Film 'RRR' Wins The Academy Award For Best Original Song

Here's another big win for India at 95th Academy awards as “Naatu Naatu” from RRR received the Best Original Song award . The other contenders in the list were“Applause” from Tell It Like a Woman, “Hold My Hand” from Top Gun: Maverick, “Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and “This Is a Life” from Everything Everywhere All at Once,

With the win, the film became the first song from any Indian film to win the award. Also, it is the second Indian song to win this prestigious award, after Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire won one in 2009 in the same category.

The Naatu Naatu craze has been taking over the Oscars from the moment it started. Host Jimmy Kimmel joked that this year instead of the music, people dancing to the song and also the song received standing ovation.

Soon after the win, the official page of 'RRR Movies' reacted with a tweet thanking fans and followers.

Previously, Kartiki Gonsalves and Guneet Monga’s Netflix documentary short, The Elephant Whisperers, has won the Oscar for Best Documentary Short category. Other nominations in the category were Haulout, How Do You Measure a Year?, The Martha Mitchell Effect and Stranger At The Gate.

Director Gonzalves dedicated the award to ‘my motherland, India’.

Guneet Monga too reacted after winning the oscar and dedicated the award to all the women watching.

Everything Everywhere All at Once wins the Best Picture at 95th Academy Awards and takes home its seventh Oscar of the night. Best Actor Oscar at the 95th Academy Award goes to Brendan Fraser for his lovely performance in 'The Whale'. Other names in the category were Austin Butler — Elvis, Colin Farrell — The Banshees of Inisherin, Paul Mescal — Aftersun and Bill Nighy — Living. On the other hand, Best Actress award went to Michelle Yeoh for Everything Everywhere All at Once. Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert has won the Best Director Oscar for 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' and deafeated Martin McDonagh — The Banshees of Inisherin, Todd Field — Tár, Steven Spielberg — The Fabelmans and Ruben Östlund — Triangle of Sadness. Everything Everywhere All at Once has also won Best Film Editing. The other nominees were - The Banshees of Inisherin, Elvis, Tár, Top Gun: Maverick.

'Top Gun: Maverick' has won an Academy for Best Sound and took over films like All Quiet on the Western Front 
Avatar: The Way of Water , The Batman and Elvis .

'Women Talking' wins Oscar for best writing (adapted screenplay). The film took over Living, All Quiet on the Western Front, Top Gun: Maverick and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery to grab the award.

'Everything Everywhere All at Once' has won an Oscar for writing (original screenplay). With the victory, the film has defeated other contendors like Triangle of Sadness, Tar, The Banshees of Inisherin and The Fabelmans. 

The 2022 American absurdist comedy-drama film is written, directed, and co-produced by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (collectively known as "Daniels"). The plot centers on Evelyn Wang, a Chinese-American immigrant who, while being audited by the IRS, discovers that she must connect with parallel universe versions of herself to prevent a powerful being from destroying the multiverse.


Earlier, 'Avatar: The Way of Water' wins Oscar for best visual effects at the 95th Academy Awards. With the victory, the film has deafeted The Batman, Top Gun: Maverick, All Quiet on the Western Front and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever .

Also, The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse wins Oscar for best short film (animated). It beat fellow nominees My Year of Dicks, An Ostrich Told Me the World is Fake And I Think I Believe It, The Flying Sailor and Ice Merchants.

All Quiet on the Western Front has won the Oscar for best international feature film at the Academy Awards in Los Angeles. The German-language first world war film is an adaptation of Erich Remarque's landmark 1928 novel; an earlier Hollywood adaptation, directed by Lewis Milestone, won the best picture Oscar in 1930

Before this, Ruth Carter won the Best Costume Design award for Wakanda Forever at Oscars @023. "Thank you Academy for recognising the Black Women," she said. The designer's mother recently passed away at an age of 101. She requested Chadwick Boseman, The original Black Panther, to take care of her in heaven.

Ruth E. Carter is a renowned costume designer who has made a significant impact in the film industry. She is best known for her work on the hit Marvel film Black Panther and its sequel Wakanda Forever. In addition to her work in films, Carter has also designed for theater productions and has been recognized for her contributions to the fashion industry.

Before this, Adrien Morort, Judy Chin and Anne Marrie Bradley have won the award in the category for The Whale staring Brendon Fraser. The American psychological drama film directed by Darren Aronofsky and written by Samuel D. Hunter, based on his 2012 play of the same name 

Earlier, The Oscar for Best Cinematography goes to James Friend for his work on 'All Quiet on the Western Front' . The film follows 17-year-old Paul (Felix Kammerer), who joins the Western Front in World War I, but his initial excitement is soon shattered by the grim reality of life in the trenches.

Before this, filmmaker Shaunak Sen's All That Breathes missed out on the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature Film at the 95th Academy Awards. The Oscar went to Navalny. The three other nominees in the category were All The Beauty And The Bloodshed, Fire Of Love, A House Made Of Splinters. Directed by Daniel Roher, Navalny revolves around Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny and events related to his poisoning. 

Earlier, actress Jamie Lee Curtis, who has spent four decades working in show business, got her first Oscars trophy for best supporting actress for her turn as a bizarre IRS auditor in “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” While accepting her trophy, she thanked all the people she has worked with over her long career. “I look like I’m standing up here by myself–I am not,” said Ms. Curtis, who got her big break in “Halloween” in 1978. She devoted the award to “all the people who have supported the genre movies that I have made for all these years.”

The category also included Stephanie Hsu for “Everything Everywhere All at Once” and Hong Chau for “The Whale.” Curtis, 64, has been talking a lot about her parents on the awards circuit while promoting “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” the trippy metaverse movie that featured her now Oscar-winning performance as bizarre IRS auditor Deirdre Beaubeirdre. Her late parents, Ms. Leigh and Tony Curtis, were both nominated for Oscars but did not win


On the other hand, Ke Huy Quan won the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for his performance in “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” Through tears, Mr. Quan reminisced on his very long journey back to the front of the camera. “My journey started on a boat,” Mr. Quan said. “I spent a year in a refugee camp, and somehow I ended up here, on Hollywood’s biggest stage. “They say stories like this only happen in the movies,” he added. “I cannot believe it’s happening to me. This, this is the American dream.”

The 95th Academy Awards got underway at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles and The Academy hopes this year’s ceremony will be slap free.

Late-night stalwart Jimmy Kimmel returns tonight to host the Oscars for the third time. “The mission: The Oscars. The host: me? Yes, me,” he tweeted when the announcement was delivered in the form of a “Top Gun” spoof, featuring Jon Hamm and Charles Parnell.

Mr. Kimmel hosted the ceremony in 2018 and 2017, the year the event was overshadowed by a last-minute mixup that saw “La La Land” recognized for best picture when the award was meant to go to Barry Jenkins’s “Moonlight.”
