Wear formals. We agree. Wear polished shoes instead of slippers. Agree. Don’t belch. We agree SBI, provided burping is really in the control of your staff who you have asked not to do that in the new circular prescribing etiquette guidelines.

One of the tips to its 2,68,705 staff members on social etiquette included a strong directive against belching, especially during meetings, calling it "highly irritating.”

Burp post a highly satisfying meal could be perceived ill-mannered if you are a front-office staff or deals in customer care. However, a small amount of burping, which nobody can say when it will strike, is a normal bodily reaction to evict the air that we swallow all through the day.

Apart from belching, the largest banker of India has also asked employees spread across 13,000 branches of SBI across the country and 190 offices in 36 countries to go formal, at least semi-formal, reported The Hindu.

"T-Shirts, Jeans and sneakers/sports shoes etc. should not be part of attire.," the circular reads.

While senior male staff in the administrative office have been asked to wear ‘smart formals’ or ‘smart semi-formals’ and a tie while meeting customers, the senior female employees were asked to wear formal Indian or western wear.

Last year, according to an IANS report, chairman Rajnish Kumar had asked in a letter to bank's staff to maintain "highest standard of ethics" and also make available "courteous services" to customers.
