The Kerala police probing the ‘conspiracy’ behind the sexual assault on Malayalam actress have questioned a leading actor and recorded his statement on Tuesday. They also arrested a man from the flat of a young actor-director though details of the accused has not been divulged.
A seven-member gang took the 30-year-old actress hostage on her way from Thrissur to Kochi on Friday and molested her. The criminals allegedly took pictures and videos to blackmail her before letting her go. Though her driver and two more men have been arrested, the mastermind and others are still at large.
Malayala Monorama reported that the police questioned the ‘prominent actor’ as part of their probe into the involvement of a ‘gang’ in the crime against the actress. According to the report, the actor told the police his name was being dragged in by his rivals to malign him.
The crime has spotlighted the criminalisation of the state’s film industry, known as Mollywood. The main accused, Sunil alias Pulsar Sunil, reportedly had close links with the industry. Sunil, who is still at large, has approached the court seeking anticipatory bail.
