Marco Jansen rose to world No. 1 in both the ICC Test bowling and all-rounders rankings on Wednesday
The South Africa left-arm pacer climbed five places in the bowling list and one place in the all-rounders table
Jansen now has 876 rating points in the Test bowlers’ rankings and a career-best 451 points among all-rounders
Marco Jansen became the world No. 1 Test bowler and Test all-rounder after fresh ICC rankings released on Wednesday pushed the South Africa’s left-arm pacer to the top of both lists. He climbed five places in the bowling rankings and one place in the all-rounders’ table during South Africa’s home series against Australia.
The rise matters because it came in the middle of a hard-fought series against Australia, with Jansen contributing with both ball and bat. Jansen’s batting has also stood out in the ongoing contest.
South Africa’s Proteas international now leads the Test bowling chart and the all-rounders’ rankings at the same time. The latest update also reshapes the chasing pack, with Australia’s Mitchell Starc moving to No. 2 among bowlers and several South African players gaining ground in the batting and all-rounder lists.
Bowling Rankings Shift
He has 876 rating points in the ICC Test bowlers’ rankings after his five-place jump on Wednesday. His rise puts him ahead of a tightly packed top group that includes Starc, New Zealand’s Matt Henry, England’s Ollie Robinson and India’s Jasprit Bumrah.
Starc is now No. 2. He reached that spot after taking six South African wickets in the first innings of the third Test in Cape Town. The Australia quick shares 861 rating points with New Zealand’s Matt Henry, while England’s Ollie Robinson has 856 and Jasprit Bumrah of India has 853.
Boland also surged.
Scott Boland climbed three places to sixth in the Test bowlers’ rankings. He played the second Test for Australia in Gqeberha last week and took six wickets in the first innings. Boland now has 829 rating points, the highest tally of his playing career.
All-Rounders And Batting
He has a career-best 451 rating points in the Test all-rounders’ rankings. That took him past Ravindra Jadeja, who has 422 points, and lifted the South African to the top spot.
Harmer made the sharpest move.
Simon Harmer jumped 15 places to eighth in the Test all-rounders’ rankings. The gain followed the second Test against Australia at St George’s Park in Gqeberha, where the 37-year-old scored 82 in the first innings as a No. 9 batter and took two wickets in the second innings.
Bavuma rose in batting too.
South Africa captain Temba Bavuma is now second in the ICC Test batting rankings after his 179 in the second Test against Australia narrowed the gap to England’s Harry Brook. Jansen also climbed 13 places to 56th in the batting list after scoring 85 as a No. 8 batter in that match. He now has 515 rating points.
