The protest was joined by students from the open merit category and leaders of other political parties. The reservation policy introduced by the Lieutenant Governor led administration before the region's assembly elections earlier this year, increased quotas for reserved categories to 60% while reducing the general category to 40%. This has drawn widespread criticism with many labelling it discriminatory against the general population.
