Alexander Zverev secured his spot in the French Open 2026 final by defeating 20-year-old rising star Jakub Menšík in a hard-fought semi-final on Court Philippe-Chatrier on June 05, Friday. The second-seeded German demonstrated his experience and composure to win 7-5, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. Zverev dominated the early stages, patiently outmaneuvering the Czech youngster to take the first two sets. However, the momentum shifted in the third when Menšík, benefiting from a medical timeout, utilized his signature drop shots and aggressive baseline play to keep the crowd engaged and snatch a set back. Despite moments of frustration and a time violation penalty, Zverev regained his focus in the fourth set, breaking early and holding firm to close out the match. It was a clash defined by Zverev’s pursuit of his first Grand Slam title against a tenacious newcomer.

Russian teen sensation outclassed Ukrainian rival Marta Kostyuk 6-1, 6-3 to enter her first Grand Slam final. The 19-year-old becomes the third-youngest finalist of the 21st century after Coco Gauff, who was just 18 years old when she achieved the feat in 2022, and 17-year-old Kim Clijsters in 2001. With this win, she also avenged her straight-sets losses to Kostyuk in the Brisbane quarterfinals in January. She has previously reached the semifinals and quarterfinals of the Roland Garros, but this time she bettered her performance by making it to the final, where she'll be up against either 25th seed Diana Shnaider or qualifier Maja Chwalinska

Playing in their first NBA Finals in 27 years, the New York Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs 105-95 in Game 1 of the 2025-26 championship series at Frost Bank Center on Wednesday (June 3). After a poor start away in Texas, the Knicks produced a stirring comeback (19-27, 29-28, 28-21, 29-19) -- their 12th straight playoff win this term, thus becoming only the third team in NBA history to complete a 'dazzling dozen,' if we may, after the Spurs (1999) and the Golden State Warriors (2017). Jalen Brunson, who won the MVP in the Eastern Conference Finals, showcased his prominence once again with 30 points, 13 of those coming in the fourth, while Karl-Anthony Towns (18 pts, 12 reb, 4 ast) and Josh Hart (3 pts, 15 reb, 6 ast, 4 stl) helped complete the turnaround. For the Spurs, Victor Wembanyama topped the charts with 26 points and 12 rebounds. The Knicks will look to make it 2-0 when the two teams meet on Friday at the same venue, before June 8 and 10 fixtures in New York.

In a historic all-Italian French Open quarterfinal on June 3, Wednesday, Matteo Arnaldi advanced to his maiden Grand Slam semifinal after Matteo Berrettini was forced to retire due to a persistent hip injury. Berrettini, a former Wimbledon finalist, started strong with an early 3-0 lead but struggled as the physical toll of the match and his injury mounted. Arnaldi capitalized on his opponent’s distress, winning the first set 7-5. Despite receiving a medical timeout in the second set, Berrettini was visibly hobbled and eventually withdrew while trailing 7-5, 5-2. Arnaldi’s win, coming after nearly 20 hours of court time this tournament, set up a semifinal clash with Flavio Cobolli, ensuring an Italian presence in the final. It was a disappointing end for Berrettini, whose comeback run concluded prematurely in Paris.

An Italian man will be in the French Open final and it’s not Jannik Sinner. Not Lorenzo Musetti, either. Flavio Cobolli beat Felix Auger-Aliassime 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 on Wednesday to reach his first Grand Slam semifinal and will next face one of two fellow Italians, Matteo Arnaldi or Matteo Berrettini — who were playing later. That means that either Cobolli or someone named Matteo will play in Sunday’s final. While Sinner and Musetti were both in the last four a year ago, they were on opposite sides of the draw, meaning it will mark the first all-Italian men’s semifinal in Grand Slam history on Friday. It’s been exactly 50 years since an Italian man won the French Open and 1976 champion Adriano Panatta was asked before the tournament to present the Coupe des Mousquetaires trophy this year.
