The 22-year-old Frenchman had 22 points and seven rebounds, even as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who himself had an inspired outing, threatened to flip the result. The two-time reigning MVP dropped 35 points, besides contributing with nine assists, four rebounds, and three steals. But the Oklahoma City night belonged to the young Spurs, who lined up Dylan Harper, Stephon Castle, Julian Champagnie, etc. The showdown began with the visitors dominating the early proceedings, but the Thunder fought back before the Spurs took the final quarter (32-25, 24-28, 24-24, 31-26). Wembanyama was adjudged the series MVP. The Spurs, in the NBA Finals for the first time since 2014, will take on the Eastern champions, the New York Knicks, starting June 3.
French police detained over 400 people involved in violent clashes in Paris and other French cities that erupted Saturday night after Paris Saint-Germain won the Champions League title. Seven officers were injured as football fans set off fires and vandalized shops, Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said, describing the violence as “absolutely unacceptable.” One small group even tried to storm a Paris police station. Nuñez said rioting took place in about 15 cities in France, and that nearly 400 people were detained in all, with nearly 300 of them in Paris alone. But he said that planned celebrations for the team’s win on Sunday afternoon at the Champ de Mars, near the Eiffel Tower, would go ahead as scheduled. The PSG team will then be hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee presidential palace.

Pakistan registered a dominant five-wicket win over visiting Australia in the tour-opening first ODI in Rawalpindi on Saturday, May 30, 2026. Skipper Shaheen Afridi won the toss and elected to bowl first in Pakistan's historic 1000th outing in the format, and soon the hosts showed their intent against a depleted Aussie side led by Josh Inglis. Abrar Ahmed had the first wicket, then fellow spinner Arafat Minhas claimed 5/32 on debut as they dismissed the world champions for 200 all out in 44.1 overs. Minhas, in the process, became the Pakistani to take a five-fer on ODI debut. The chase was completed in 42.3 overs with Minhas hitting the winning runs, a six. Earlier, returning Babar Azam (69) and wicket-keeper Ghazi Ghori (65) played measured knocks for a 127-run third wicket stand to help Pakistan recover from 49/2. Nathan Ellis claimed two wickets for the Aussies. The remaining matches of the three-match series will be played in Lahore on June 2 and 4.

Gauff’s second Grand Slam title came with a victory over top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka in the final at Roland Garros a year ago. The 30th-ranked Potapova, who was born in Russia but now represents Austria, improved to 3-2 in her career against Gauff. She’s having quite a clay season after reaching a final in Linz, Austria, and the semifinals of the Madrid Open as a qualifier.

Osaka beat 18-year-old American opponent Iva Jovic 7-6 (5), 6-7 (3), 6-4 over nearly three hours on Saturday, in her 100th Grand Slam match. Once again, Osaka wore a metallic gold bomber jacket over her sequined gold playing dress during her walk-on. But this time her outfit was offset by a tannish-gold colored train that stretched all the way down to the red clay on Court Suzanne-Lenglen.
