India will look to address several lingering selection puzzles when they take on South Africa on Sunday in the first ODI of the three-match series where Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli return to the set-up for a short audition that could well shape their 2027 World Cup fate. Both Rohit and Kohli now compete in just one international format, and with India scheduled to play only six ODIs in the next two months -- three against the Proteas and three versus New Zealand at home in January -- the stakes have rarely been higher for two of Indian cricket's modern-day greats.

After beating the Eagles on the Super Bowl champions’ home turf, it was time for rookie Bears coach Ben Johnson to bare arms. Oh, and go bare-chested. Johnson tore off his shirt inside a jubilant locker room and flexed like a professional wrestler as the victorious Bears danced, hollered and chanted in a circle around him. “Good, better, best. Never let it rest till your good gets better and your better gets best,” the Bears and Johnson shouted. One of the surprise teams in the NFL, the Bears had every reason to go wild following a vintage rushing performance that echoed their famous Super Bowl-winning 1985 squad.

A massive fire broke out in the early hours of Wednesday morning at Wang Fuk Court, a 38-year-old public housing estate in Tai Po, New Territories, rapidly turning into one of Hong Kong’s deadliest residential blazes in decades. The fire, which started on a lower floor, spread quickly through the aging 16-storey block, producing intense heat and thick black smoke that filled corridors and stairwells, trapping many residents inside their units. At least ten people were confirmed dead, dozens were injured, some critically, and a number of residents remained missing as search-and-rescue operations continued into the second day.

Nottingham Forest produced a dominant display to beat Sweden’s Malmö FF 3-0 in a rematch of the 1979 European Cup final. Malmo was a semi-professional team when it lost 1-0 in Munich to the English side, which also went on to retain the title the following year. The teams wore the same color schemes as in that final, with the hosts in all red and the visitors in pale blue shirts and white shorts, and Forest invited players from both 1979 teams to the City Ground to pose for a photo before kickoff.

Donyell Malen scored twice for Aston Villa in a 2-1 win over Young Boys on Thursday in a Europa League game that was temporarily halted because of crowd trouble that included the forward being hit by an object thrown from the stands. Malen appeared to be struck by a plastic cup after his 27th-minute goal — leaving a small cut on his head — and Young Boys fans again pelted the Villa players with thrown objects after the Dutch forward doubled the lead in the 42nd. Some away supporters then clashed with police, leading to the game being halted for about five minutes.
