Mirra Andreeva is the French Open 2026 champion. The 19-year-old Russian defeated Polish qualifier Maja Chwalinska in a lopsided Roland Garros women's singles final that lasted 83 minutes to claim her first Grand Slam title on Saturday (June 6). On Court Philippe-Chatrier, the eighth seed overwhelmed the world no. 114 in straight sets (6-3, 6-2). She thus became the first teenager to win the French Open women's singles title since Iga Swiatek in 2020 and also the youngest woman since 18-year-old Monica Seles, who completed a hat trick in 1992, to lift the Coupe Suzanne Lenglen on Paris's famed clay court. Chwalinska, 24, was bidding to become the first qualifier since Emma Raducanu in 2021 (US Open) to win a Grand Slam title. Attention now turns to Sunday's men's singles final, where German second seed Alexander Zverev will take on 10th-seeded Italian Flavio Cobolli.
The New York Knicks Hold Off Late Spurs Rally to scrape through a 105-104 win in Game 2 of the 2026 NBA Finals after Spurs' leading man, Victor Wembanyama, missed a last-gasp attempt at the buzzer. Knicks were sailing towards victory with a 14-point lead and just 6 minutes of play remaining, but ended up trailing by two points after relinquishing the lead in a short span. However, then Jalen Brunson tied the game with a tough jump shot, and then a costly foul by Wembanyama sent Brunson to the free-throw line, which he made to get the Knicks ahead by a point. With just the last few moments of the game remaining, Wembenyama got a chance to register a win for his team but his mid-range shot missed the target, and the Knicks were finally able to weather the Spurs' late storm to extend their Finals advantage to 2-0

New Zealand was 36-3 in pursuit of an increasingly distant 254 runs to beat England after day two on a minefield of a Lord’s test pitch on Friday. England bagged the big wicket of Kane Williamson just 10 minutes before stumps. In likely his last innings at Lord’s, Williamson missed a full-length delivery from Josh Tongue that would have crashed into middle stump. New Zealand started the day still finishing its first innings, which was wrapped up on 113, conceding a 27-run lead to England. New opening batter Emilio Gay with a match-high 57 runs led England to 226 in its second innings. That set New Zealand 254 to win, which requires the fifth highest successful run chase at Lord’s.

Alexander Zverev secured his spot in the French Open 2026 final by defeating 20-year-old rising star Jakub Menšík in a hard-fought semi-final on Court Philippe-Chatrier on June 05, Friday. The second-seeded German demonstrated his experience and composure to win 7-5, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. Zverev dominated the early stages, patiently outmaneuvering the Czech youngster to take the first two sets. However, the momentum shifted in the third when Menšík, benefiting from a medical timeout, utilized his signature drop shots and aggressive baseline play to keep the crowd engaged and snatch a set back. Despite moments of frustration and a time violation penalty, Zverev regained his focus in the fourth set, breaking early and holding firm to close out the match. It was a clash defined by Zverev’s pursuit of his first Grand Slam title against a tenacious newcomer.

Russian teen sensation outclassed Ukrainian rival Marta Kostyuk 6-1, 6-3 to enter her first Grand Slam final. The 19-year-old becomes the third-youngest finalist of the 21st century after Coco Gauff, who was just 18 years old when she achieved the feat in 2022, and 17-year-old Kim Clijsters in 2001. With this win, she also avenged her straight-sets losses to Kostyuk in the Brisbane quarterfinals in January. She has previously reached the semifinals and quarterfinals of the Roland Garros, but this time she bettered her performance by making it to the final, where she'll be up against either 25th seed Diana Shnaider or qualifier Maja Chwalinska

Playing in their first NBA Finals in 27 years, the New York Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs 105-95 in Game 1 of the 2025-26 championship series at Frost Bank Center on Wednesday (June 3). After a poor start away in Texas, the Knicks produced a stirring comeback (19-27, 29-28, 28-21, 29-19) -- their 12th straight playoff win this term, thus becoming only the third team in NBA history to complete a 'dazzling dozen,' if we may, after the Spurs (1999) and the Golden State Warriors (2017). Jalen Brunson, who won the MVP in the Eastern Conference Finals, showcased his prominence once again with 30 points, 13 of those coming in the fourth, while Karl-Anthony Towns (18 pts, 12 reb, 4 ast) and Josh Hart (3 pts, 15 reb, 6 ast, 4 stl) helped complete the turnaround. For the Spurs, Victor Wembanyama topped the charts with 26 points and 12 rebounds. The Knicks will look to make it 2-0 when the two teams meet on Friday at the same venue, before June 8 and 10 fixtures in New York.
