India skipper KL Rahul won the toss and opted to bowl against South Africa in the deciding third and final One-day International, on Saturday Saturday. India made one change to the side that lost the second ODI at Raipur, bringing in Tilak Varma in place of all-rounder Washington Sundar. South Africa, hit by injuries to key players, Nandre Burger and Tony de Zorzi, have included Ryan Rickelton and Ottneil Baartman in their place. Burger and de Zorzi have been ruled out for a couple of weeks. Burger experienced right hamstring discomfort during the previous game, while de Zorzi encountered pain in the right hamstring while batting. The series stands at 1-1, after India won the first ODI and South Africa levelled it in Raipur.
Justin Greaves made an unbeaten 202 in a 230-run partnership with Kemar Roach as the West Indies won an endurance contest against a threadbare New Zealand attack Saturday to draw the first test after being set 531 to win. The West Indies’ second innings of 457-6 was the highest fourth-innings score since tests have been limited to five days. At times they flirted with the highest winning run chase in history Saturday until with six wickets down in the last session Greaves and Roach finally put up the shutters.

All around the globe, eyes focused Friday on the stage where World Cup paths were sorted, nations’ names chosen one by one in a draw that determined Argentina and Lionel Messi will start their title defense against Algeria and the U.S. will open against Paraguay. Twenty-seven months after qualifying began, teams from five-time champion Brazil to newcomers Cape Verde, Curaçao, Jordan and Uzbekistan learned their group-stage opponents in the expanded 48-nation, 104-game tournament that starts June 11 in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The Formula 1 title fight is Lando Norris' to lose, and he doesn't look like losing. The British driver went fastest in both of Friday's (December 5, 2025) practice sessions as he laid down a marker ahead of the three-way title decider at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Norris beat title rival Max Verstappen by just 0.008 of a second in the first session and stretched that gap over the Red Bull driver to 0.363 in the second, which was more representative of the day-night conditions for Sunday's race. The only way Norris can lose the title is if he finishes the race outside the top three. Norris leads Verstappen by 12 points and teammate Oscar Piastri by 16. Norris and Piastri are each looking to win their first title and Verstappen is aiming for his fifth in a row.

Australia built a 44-run first-innings lead after two days of the second Ashes Test, with the top order all getting starts Friday (December 5, 2025) to help the hosts reach 378 for 6 at stumps. Five dropped catches and some wayward bowling dented England's momentum, and allowed Australia's batters to capitalize. Opener Jake Weatherald led from the start of Australia's innings with 72 from 78 balls, Marnus Labuschagne (65) completed back-to-back half centuries, and stand-in skipper Steve Smith made 61 as bat dominated ball despite some uneven bounce at the Gabba.

A New Zealand team with a crowded medical ward met stiff resistance and were unable to finish off the West Indies on the fourth day of the first Test in Christchurch on Friday (December 5, 2025) after setting the tourists 531 to win. Shai Hope led the resistance with his fourth Test century in an unbroken partnership of 140 with Justin Greaves which began when New Zealand captured four wickets relatively quickly in the second session. At stumps, Hope was 116 not out, Greaves was 55 not out and the West Indies were 212 for 4, trailing New Zealand by 319 runs.

For LeBron James, the win mattered more than the streak. James’ NBA-record run of 1,297 consecutive regular-season games with at least 10 points ended Friday (December 5, 2025) at Toronto, and he was the one who made the decision to have it end. Instead of trying to score to win the game — and extend his streak — he set up Rui Hachimura for the final shot. Hachimura connected on a 3-pointer at the buzzer, James got the game-winning assist, and the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Raptors 123-120. James finished with eight points and had no regrets.

Joe Root struck a long-awaited first century in Australia to give England the honours on Day 1 of the second Ashes Test despite Mitchell Starc’s six wickets. Starc removed Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope to have England reeling at 5 for 2 in the third over in Brisbane on Thursday (December 4). That’s when Root went to the crease and set about restoring the England innings, and confidence, following the series-opening eight-wicket loss in Perth. His unbeaten 135 led England to 325 for 9 at stumps, with No. 11 Jofra Archer at a career-best 32 in an unbroken 61-run last-wicket stand.
