  • India Vs New Zealand, 1st ODI: Kohli, Gill Knocks Guide Men In Blue To Four-Wicket Win

    Virat Kohli struck a 91-ball 93 while captain Shubman Gill made 56 as India beat New Zealand by four wickets in the first ODI to go 1-0 up in the three-match series in Vadodara on Sunday (January 11, 2026). Kohli smashed eight fours and one six during his magnificent innings to help India overhaul the target of 301 with six balls to spare. Shreyas Iyer chipped in with 49 as India reached 306 for 6 in 49 overs. For New Zealand, Kyle Jamieson returned with fine figures of 4 for 41 from his 10 overs, while Adithya Ashok and Kristian Clarke got one wicket each. Earlier, Indian bowlers, especially pacers Harshit Rana and Mohammed Siraj, bowled probing line and length but Daryl Mitchell struck a fine counter-attaching half-century to guide New Zealand to 300 for 8.

  • Egypt 3-2 Ivory Coast, AFCON 2025: Salah Stars As Pharaohs Seal Semi-Final Place

    Egypt edged past defending champions Ivory Coast 3-2 in a thrilling Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 quarter-final match at the Stade Adrar in Agadir on Saturday. Mohamed Salah starred for the Pharaohs, scoring the decisive goal to send Egypt through to the semi-finals. Seven-time champions Egypt struck early through Omar Marmoush, and Ramy Rabia's looping header doubled the advantage before the half-hour mark. Ivory Coast clawed back before the break, courtesy of an own goal from Ahmed Fatouh. However, Egypt restored their two-goal advantage when Salah slotted home in the 52nd minute. The Elephants were given renewed confidence when Guela Doue bundled in from a corner in the 73rd minute. Despite sustained pressure, Egypt's defence held on to set up a semi-final match against Senegal.

    The top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka captured her second consecutive Brisbane International title, and 22nd overall, with a straight sets victory over Marta Kostyuk on Sunday (January 11, 2026). It was the third year in a row Sabalenka appeared in the final and the Belarusian player looked in comfortable surroundings as she closed out a 6-4, 6-3 victory in just 1 hour and 17 minutes at Pat Rafter Arena. The Brisbane International is a tune-up event for this year’s Australian Open, which begins January 18.

    Non-league Macclesfield FC produced one of the greatest giant-killings in FA Cup history, stunning holders Crystal Palace 2-1 in their third-round tie at Moss Rose. The sixth-tier side, ranked 117 places below Palace in the English football pyramid, took the lead just before half-time when captain Paul Dawson headed home, sending the packed home crowd into raptures. Midway through the second half, Isaac Buckley-Ricketts doubled Macclesfield’s advantage with a clever finish, leaving the Premier League visitors stunned and struggling to find rhythm. Palace threatened late, and Yeremy Pino struck a superb free-kick in stoppage time, but it proved merely a consolation as Macclesfield held firm to secure historic progression to the fourth round. The result is widely regarded as the biggest FA Cup upset ever.

    Manchester City produced a record-breaking performance to seal a 10-1 win over League One side Exeter City in the third round of the FA Cup 2025-26 on Saturday. Max Alleyne netted his first senior goal in the 12th minute, with Rodri doubling the lead in the 24th minute. Two own goals from Jake Doyle-Hayes and Jack Fitzwater compounded Exeter's misery.   • Algeria 0-2 Nigeria, AFCON 2025 Quarter-Final: Osimhen, Adams On Target As Super Eagles Soar To Semis

    Nigeria produced an all-round performance to seal a 2-0 win over Algeria at the Grand Stadium of Marrakech on Saturday. The Super Eagles dominated the match from the get-go, with Akor Adams missing a glorious one-on-one chance early on. The Algerian defence continued to frustrate the Nigerian attack, resulting in a goalless first half. However, Osimhen needed less than two minutes after the restart to head Nigeria into the lead, knocking down a cross from Bruno Onyemaechi past Luca Zidane and into the back of the net. Osimhen then provided an assist 10 minutes later as he threaded a beautiful pass to Adams, who made no mistake in rounding the goalkeeper and walking the ball into an empty net. Algeria, meanwhile, struggled to test Stanley Nwabali's goal, and the 2019 champions were knocked out while Nigeria set up a semi-final clash with Morocco.
