Vijay Sethupathi recently landed into controversy following sexual exploitation allegations by an X (formerly known as Twitter) user. The actor has now broken his silence on the matter. In a conversation with Deccan Chronicle, Sethupathi denied the claims, and called them "filthy". He also said that his family and close friends are upset about it. The 47-year-old star also revealed that his team has filed a complaint with the cybercrime department.

Refuting the allegations, Sethupathi said, "Anyone who knows me even remotely will laugh at this. I know myself too. This kind of filthy accusation can’t upset me. My family and close friends are upset, but I tell them, ‘Let it slide. This woman is obviously doing it to be noticed. She has her few minutes of fame, let her enjoy it'."
The actor files complaint
Sethupathi said his lawyer is looking into the matter. He also confirmed of filing a cybercrime complaint. The actor also revealed facing "all kinds of whispering campaigns for seven years" and said he is unaffected by it so far and will never get affected.
"My new film (referring to Thalaivan Thalaivii) is doing well. Probably, some jealous elements think that by tarnishing me, they can damage my film. It doesn’t work that way," he said further.
The Maharaja actor also said that in today’s day and age anyone can say anything about anybody. "There are no filters. All you need is an account on social media and you can write what you like without fear of repercussion," he said.
What were the allegations against Vijay Sethupathi?
For the uninitiated, on July 28, an X user named Ramya Mohan, accused the National Award-winning actor of sexually exploiting a girl she knows.
The now-deleted post read: "@VijaySethuOffl has offered Rs. 2L for ‘caravan favors’, Rs. 50k for ‘drives’ and acts like a saint on social media." It further mentioned, "This isn’t one story. It’s many, and the media worships these men like they are saints. The drug-sex nexus is real. Not a joke."
She also mentioned that "drugs, manipulation, and transactional exploitation" are disguised as "industry norm".
