England ended day 1 at 251 for the loss of four wickets with former captain Joe Root slamming an unbeaten 99 against India at Lord's on Thursday. Root (99) and skipper Ben Stokes (39) were batting at the crease when stumps were drawn.
The visitors had success in the first and final sessions of the day as pacer Nitish Kumar Reddy, premier quick Jasprit Bumrah and spinner Ravindra Jadeja were among the wickets.
The match is still in the balance going on the second day as England know the conditions aren't suited for batting and the ball is keeping a tad low. As for the India, Shubhman Gill-led side are in search of wickets and an early burst could put them in driver's seat.
