As the Opposition presses the Centre to have a discussion on the situation in Manipur, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Dilip Ghosh said that the Opposition takes up "baseless" issues before every session of the Parliament to disrupt the issue.
The Opposition has been pressing the Centre to have a discussion on Manipur after a video surfaced this week that showed two tribal women being traded naked by a mob in Manipur. The state has been enveloped in ethnic conflict since May and over 100 people have so far been killed and thousands have been displaced amid widespread arson and targeted attacks.

The Opposition has criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for being silent on Manipur. It was only after that the video surfaced and triggered all-round outrage that Modi spoke on the situation. The Parliament has witnessed heated scenes amid the Opposition's call for a discussion on Manipur. In this backdrop, West Bengal BJP leader Ghosh accused the Opposition of taking up baseless issues for disruption.
He told PTI, “Whenever the Parliament session is about to start, they (Opposition) bring up baseless issues to disrupt the House."
The Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha sessions were washed out on Friday with repeated adjournments amid heated scenes over the Manipur situation. The introduction of the bill of Delhi ordinance and the act of expunging certain remarks by TMC leader Derek O'Brien were among the issues that rocked the Upper House.

The house "was adjourned in the morning session over the Manipur issue and the Opposition raising objections to the Chair expunging certain words from the record" also witnessed uproarious scenes when it reassembled post-lunch, reported PTI, adding that Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar informed the members about the report of the business advisory committee (BAC) after its meeting held on Thursday and said it should be taken into account.
"This led to uproar in the house with several opposition members raising objections over the listing of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill along with the Forest Conservation Bill, saying they had already expressed their views against the proposed legislations during the BAC meeting," reported PTI.
Similar scenes led to the adjournment in the Lok Sabha. While the Opposition demanded the discussion on Manipur amid sloganeering, the house was adjourned. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has said that the government is open for a discussion.
Earlier, Singh said, "We want that there should be discussions on Manipur incidents. I have said this in all-party meeting and I want to reiterate here that there should be discussions on Manipur incidents. But I can see that the opposition is unnecessarily creating problems so that no discussions take place on Manipur situation. I want to say that the opposition is not serious for a discussion on Manipur as it should have been. We want a discussion on Manipur situation and there should be a discussion. Opposition should take it seriously.
