After Congress won the Karnataka assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the party and also thanked his party's workers.

Congress has won 117 seats of the 224 Karnataka assembly seats and is leading in another 19 seats. Karnataka, along with Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, is among the key states where elections this year are expected to set the tone for the general elections next year.

In two tweets, Modi congratulated the Congress party and conveyed his wishes to the party to fulfil the people's aspirations.

He said, "Congratulations to the Congress Party for their victory in the Karnataka Assembly polls. My best wishes to them in fulfilling people’s aspirations."

Modi further thanked the workers of BJP in a second tweet.

He said, "I thank all those who have supported us in the Karnataka elections. I appreciate the hardwork of BJP Karyakartas. We shall serve Karnataka with even more vigour in the times to come."

Earlier, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai of BJP had conceded defeat in Karnataka assembly elections.

Congress has framed the victory in Karnataka as one of love over hatred.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said, "I thank and congratulate the people of Karnataka, party workers and leaders. I am happy we contested the Karnataka polls without using hate, bad language. We fought the polls with love. In Karnataka, 'nafrat ka bazaar (market of hate)' has closed down, 'mohabbat ki dukaanein' (shops of love) have opened."
