For ‘Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai’ producer Binaiferr Kohli, Diwali is all about spending some quality time with her family. She says that celebrating an eco-friendly Diwali is the sensible way to honour the festival.

“My Diwali plans involve spending most of my time away from the city to avoid the pollution. I’ll return to the city on Diwali day to partake in the festivities. I’ll light diyas, create beautiful rangoli designs, prepare special dishes at home, and most importantly, cherish moments with my family, including hugging my beloved babies and my dog. In our home, our dog holds a special place and is like one of our children. It’s a time to celebrate with loved ones and create lasting memories,” she says.

She adds, “It’s great to see that many people have begun celebrating an eco-friendly Diwali. With pollution in the air, it’s important for everyone to be aware that they are not only harming themselves but also affecting others who are exposed to this pollution. It’s crucial for people to consider the impact of their actions and try to avoid contributing to the pollution problem during the festivities.”

Talking about her Diwali shopping, she says, “For Diwali, I enjoy buying traditional items like road-side diyas, authentic mithais, and garlands. I also hired someone to create a beautiful rangoli. Additionally, I make it a point to take my household staff shopping for clothes to make their Diwali special. It’s a way for me to celebrate the festival while supporting local vendors and ensuring that everyone in my household has a joyous and memorable Diwali.”

And what about Dhanteras? “I don’t place much importance on material possessions, and I don’t like to hoard things. This habit is something I inherited from my mother. My father used to scold her for it, and now my husband scolds me. I’m not very attached to jewellery or material things,” she says.

Ask her what she will be wearing, and she says, “I’ll be wearing a Salwar Kameez for this Diwali, but it won’t be a new one. I prefer the comfort of Indian attire, and I find Salwar Kameez to be very comfortable.”

Festive time is fun, but hectic too. Talking about how she balances her time, she says, “The festive time is not hectic; it’s a lot of fun. During this time, you get to meet friends, celebrate various festivals, and there’s a delightful atmosphere with the fragrance of agarbatti and dhoop. Colourful rangoli and garlands adorn the doors, making everything look beautiful and lovely. It’s a wonderful and heartwarming feeling.”
