Akash Thosar starrer ‘Ghar Banduk Biryani’ released on Zee5 recently and the film has been garnering an even greater response than it got in theatres. The film has been praised for its concept, the performances and the unique naming of the movie.

Talking about the experience of working with stalwarts from the film industry, Akash Thosar says, “Anna’s (Nagraj Manjule) brother Bhushan Manjule had auditioned me for ‘Sairat’. He was the same person who offered me ‘Ghar Banduk Biryani’. Anna heard this film and developed the script alongside Hemant dada during lockdown. Our bonding is unique. Anna is my biggest support system. I feel fortunate I could work with AatPaat Production, Anna and senior actors like Sayaji sir. This is just my beginning and I have already gotten to work with Mr Bachchan and other veterans of the industry.”

Speaking of working with Sayaji Shinde, he says, “Sayaji sir is an acting institute in himself. I felt burdened in the start and didn’t want them to re-take because of me. I was fresh and had multiple emotions in mind. I knew Sayaji Shinde as an angry young man and had seen his previous work. I was a little nervous and scared but he was extremely warm towards me. He gave me the tightest hug and I felt very light. He used to help me sharpen my dialogues so they leave a better impact. He helped me perform a lot scenes with conviction. He gave me acting lessons behind the scenes and suggested me to read poetries and books to understand the craft better. He is always coaching and inspiring me.”

Akash Thosar also had a great bonding with Sayli Patil. “Sayli and I bonded really well. We were a part of ‘Jhund’ but didn’t have any scene together. There were no dialogues. In ‘Ghar Banduk Biryani’, we shot songs together and that’s my favourite part. I am only supposed to give expressions hence I enjoy it. Sayli was an architect in Pune before becoming an actor. Despite that, she has essayed the role of a village girl quite well. She used to be overwhelmed in the start. This specific scene we shot sitting on the same bed was truly memorable. She used to burst out laughing the minute Anna said action. I used to pinch her to get natural reactions out.”

“Even the supporting actors in the film are talented individuals from Lalit Kalakendra and other theatre schools. Post shoot we used to mingle together and I was amazed at their knowledge. They were educated when it comes to acting. They knew much more than me and that motivated me,” concludes Akash Thosar.
