Actress Deepika Padukone's reported demand for an 8-hour working shift after the birth of her daughter Dua has sparked industry debate about the working shifts of the actresses, especially for new moms. Actor Vikrant Massey, who had earlier worked with Deepika in Chhapaak, has supported her demand for an eight-hour workday. Here's what he said.

Vikrant Massey on 8-hour work shift

Vikrant, sharing his opinion on the 8-hour work shift, told Firstpost that he aspires to do something like that in a couple of years. "I want to go out and say, we can collaborate, but I would only work for eight hours. But at the same time, it should be a choice. And if my producer cannot accommodate that, because there are also a lot of other things involved when you are making a film...", he said.

Vikrant also said that if he wants to work for eight hours instead of twelve, then he has to reduce his fees. "Money plays a very important role, and I will have to reduce my fees as I will be working for eight hours instead of twelve. If I cannot give my producer twelve hours a day, I cannot go out there and not reduce my fee. I ought to reduce my fee. It’s a give-and-take, right? And as a young mother, I think Deepika deserves it," added the 12th Fail actor.

Deepika Padukone-Sandeep Reddy Vanga row

For the uninitiated, Deepika Padukone was replaced by Triptii Dimri in Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit, for reportedly putting forth certain conditions as a new mother, which Vanga allegedly rejected.

Reports claim that Deepika demanded a strict eight-hour shift, a whopping fee, along with a 10% profit share, and even refused to deliver the Telugu lines in Prabhas starrer.

Coming back to Vikrant Massey, he is currently gearing up for the release of Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, which also stars Shanaya Kapoor. Directed by Santosh Singh, the film is adapted from Ruskin Bond’s short story The Eyes Have It. It is releasing in theatres on July 11, 2025.
