'Oppenheimer' Vs 'Barbie' Day 1 Collection: Cillian Murphy Starrer Dominates Indian Box Office, Margot Robbie-Ryan Gosling's Film Rules The World

Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling starrer, 'Barbie' opened at theatres on July 21 with Christopher Nolan's 'Oppenheimer'. The Greta Gerwig directorial had a decent start on Day 1 in India while Cillian Murphy starrer opened with great numbers.

Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie starrer, 'Barbie' finally hit the theatres worldwide on July 21. It clashed with Christopher Nolan's 'Oppenheimer'. Both movies created a lot of buzz ahead of the release. The Day 1 collection of 'Barbie' and 'Oppenheimer' are out. The Greta Gerwig's comedy-drama has received a positive response from both critics and audience but it minted less than Cillian Murphy starrer in India. 

As per a report in Sacnilk, 'Barbie' opened with only Rs 5 crore on its first day of release while Christopher Nolan's biographical thriller 'Oppenheimer' reportedly pocketed Rs 13.50 crore in India. The same portal reported that Margot Robbie starrer had 41.61 percent English occupancy on Friday. While 'Oppenheimer' was leading the race in India. However, 'Barbie' is said to be performing better in the US. As per Variety, it has already earned a whopping $22.3 million in the US, whereas 'Oppenheimer' has minted $10.5 million.

Reports also state that 16,000 tickets of 'Barbie' had been sold in its advance booking across three multiple chains - PVR, INOX and Cinepolis, for Day 1 whereas 'Oppenheimer' had sold close to 1.30 lakh tickets for Day 1 across the same cinema hall chains.

Meanwhile, the Christopher Nolan directorial has also reportedly surpassed Tom Cruise’s 'Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One', which had earned Rs 12.50 crores in India on the first day of its release. 

Talking about 'Barbie', the movie is inspired by the most-beloved Barbie fashion dolls. It also stars Ariana Greenblatt, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Emma Mackey, and others.  'Oppenheimer' is based on the Pulitzer Prize–winning biography American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer. It also stars Robert Downey Jr., Emily Blunt, Matt Damon and Florence Pugh among others.
