Sunny Deol’s ‘Gadar 2’, starring Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma, has minted Rs 2.80 crore on its fourth Wednesday. Directed by Anil Sharma, who also helmed its prequel ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’, the film has been raking in moolah at the box office and its total collection now stands at Rs 508.97 crore.

Despite the film’s huge success, the storyline has faced criticism from a certain section of the audience that said that ‘Gadar 2’ is “anti-Muslim.” In a recent interview, director Anil Sharma reacted to the claims and said that it is not the case, and the film promotes unity. He also shared deep respect for the Muslim community.

In a conversation with The Times of India, the director also mentioned how he feels lucky to have directed two Gadar movies, and called himself as an artist who might not understand how the world works. He further added that he made ‘Gadar 2’ because people wanted to see it, and it has no anti-Muslim leanings. He further asked why the audiences can’t accept both the Geeta and the Quran, thereby mentioning how the Muslim community is his biggest audience.

For the unversed, Sunny had earlier reacted to similar claims during an interview with BBC UK and said, “I think people in both countries are like let it all go, we are normal humans on both sides. But throughout the film, whenever I have portrayed any character, I have never run anyone down. I don’t believe in that. Even Tara Singh is not that kind of person, not that kind of character. And I believe in such cinema.”

‘Gadar 2’ will now face big competition against Shah Rukh Khan's ‘Jawan’ after today.
