While Singh said that he had filed a fresh mercy petition before the President of India, Gupta said his curative petition is pending in the Supreme Court. Gupta's curative petition also seeks commutation of his death sentence to life imprisonment, ANI reported.
Gupta, against whom the death warrant has been issued for execution along with three other condemned prisoners on March 3, has filed the curative plea saying that the death penalty should not awarded to him.
AP Singh, the lawyer for Vinay Sharma, one of the four convicts of the Nirbhaya rape and murder case, informed the additional session judge on February 17 that Sharma had received a severe head injury and was unable to recognise his mother.
