A 21-year-old woman was allegedly burnt alive on a funeral pyre after a Greater Noida-based hospital declared her dead a day before.

The Uttar Pradesh police, who stopped the creamtion mid-way following complaints by the victim's kin, are now investigating the matter. They said that a two-doctor team from Aligarh has inferred that the woman died of 'shock caused by being burnt alive', reported Hindustan Times.

The fresh medical reports claim that charred particles were found inside her lungs and windpipe which is a clear indicator of the fact that she was alive when burnt.

"This happens when someone is burnt alive. The particles go inside with the breath. If a person is dead, such particles cannot reach the lungs and the windpipe," a senior police official told the newspaper.
