A bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice GS Kulkarni was hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking that drugs being used to treat COVID-19 patients be made available directly at hospitals.
Most of the population in rural India is dependent on government funded public facilities and Community Health Centres (CHCs). Even though rural areas have approximately 5335 functioning CHCs, there is a massive need for more such centres, especially in states like Bihar.
According to the Union Health Ministry data, Covid-19 recovery cases have surpassed the 56-lakh mark in the country, with the recovery rate rising to 84.70 per cent. The death toll has climbed to 1,03,569.
