Day 9 of United Cup will feature the two last-four ties, with the United States of America meeting Czechia in the later semi-final.
Rybakina had steered Kazakhstan into the Sydney leg of the United Cup, while also ending Germany's title defence in the process. The former Wimbledon champion beat Laura Siegemund 6-3 6-1 in the opening match. Germany then suffered a further blow, with world number two Alexander Zverev withdrawing from the tournament due to a bicep strain moments before his match.
His replacement, Daniel Masur, got off to a flying start and edged the first set, but Alexander Shevchenko rallied from behind to clinch a 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 6-2 victory to give Kazakhstan an unassailable 2-0 lead. Germany did, however, restore some pride in the mixed doubles, with Siegemund and Tim Puetz beating Zhibek Kulambayeva and Dmitry Popko 6-2 6-2.
As for Poland, five-time Grand Slam winner Swiatek narrowly prevailed over Great Britain's Katie Boulter 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 6-4 in a near-three-hour contest to propel them into the semis. Hubert Hurcakz had earlier notched up a straight-sets victory over Billy Harris (7-6 (3), 7-5).
In the semi-final, Shevchenko will meet Hurcakz first, followed by a mouth-watering match between Rybakina and Swiatek. The two sets of players will then combine for the doubles rubber.
