Cristiano Ronaldo has put an end to months of swirling speculation by signing a two-year contract extension with Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr, officially committing his future to the club until 2027. The extension, confirmed on June 26, secures the Portuguese legend's presence in Riyadh until he turns 42.

Ronaldo’s original contract was set to expire at the end of June 2025, sparking widespread rumours of a potential departure. His future had come under increased scrutiny following Al Nassr’s failure to qualify for the expanded 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

Al-Nassr ended the 2025 season in third place, missing out on qualification for the 2025-26 AFC Champions League Elite.

While FIFA President Gianni Infantino had hinted at the possibility of Cristiano Ronaldo featuring in the revamped Club World Cup, the Portuguese forward later ruled out any such move.

After leading Portugal to a Nations League victory over Spain — where he scored the equaliser in regulation time before a penalty shootout win — Ronaldo reaffirmed his commitment to staying at Al-Nassr.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner claimed the Saudi Pro League Golden Boot for a second consecutive season in 2024–25, netting 25 goals, though that was 10 fewer than the previous campaign.

Since joining Al-Nassr in January 2023, Ronaldo has been the league’s top scorer overall, with 74 goals in 77 appearances. However, earlier social media posts — including one where he wrote “This chapter is over” — had sparked speculation about a possible exit.
