South Africa hold a huge 505-run lead heading into day four of their first Test with Zimbabwe.

Wiaan Mulder was the star of the show on Monday, as he struck 147 from 206 deliveries to propel South Africa to 369 all out.

The Proteas resumed on 49-1, and though Tony de Zorzi (31) fell early, Mulder and David Bedingham (35) put on a stand of 72 before the latter succumbed to Wellington Masakadza, who was the pick of Zimbabwe's bowlers, taking 4-98.

Lhuan-dre Pretorius (4) and Dewald Brevis (3) fell to Vincent Masekesa (2-117) in quick succession, but Mulder was in superb form as he anchored the Proteas' innings.

Wessly Madhevere (1-35) finally ended Mulder's stand, with the latter picking out the fielder at the deep-midwicket boundary, but Kyle Verreynne (36), Corbin Bosch (36) and Keshav Maharaj (51) further compounded Zimbabwe's frustrations by tacking on late runs.

Kwena Maphaka fell on eight to end South Africa's second innings, with Zimbabwe having to bat out part of the final session.

They failed to do so without loss, too, as Bosch dismissed Takudzwanashe Kaitano (12) with the final ball of the day, leaving Zimbabwe on 32-1 and with a mountain to climb.

Data Debrief: Mulder makes his mark

Having taken 4-52 in Zimbabwe's first innings, Mulder has now shone with the bat to surely tee himself up for a Player of the Match Award.

His 147 marked his second century in the longest format and his best score in a Test match, surpassing the 105 not out he struck against Bangladesh last October.
