New Zealand won preceding T20I series 3-1
West Indies missing several pacers due to injuries
Hosts have strong record at home in 2025
Welcome to our live coverage of the first one-day international between New Zealand and West Indies at the Hagley Oval, Christchurch on Sunday (November 16, 2025). Having won the T20I series by a 3-1 margin, the Kiwis now turn to the 50-over leg with a string of strong recent performances behind them.
Prior to the Windies face-off, the BlackCaps have played three ODI series at home in 2025 and won each of them, losing just one of the nine games in the process. On top of that, their previous two series at home - against Pakistan and England - were 3-0 clean sweeps.
As for the visitors, they are considerably depleted in the seam-bowling department, with Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Ramon Simmonds and Jediah Blades all ruled out of the three-match series due to injuries. They have recalled opener John Campbell, dropping Brandon King after his poor run in the T20Is. Uncapped seamer Johann Layne and all-rounder Shamar Springer have also been included in the squad.
