Think back in time about the post-world war II era and the onset of the 60s decade, when businesses were thriving, and the creative field of watchmaking was no exception. Rado, then Schlup & Co., decided to create a watch that could outlast, outshine and outlive practically every other timepiece on the market. The time was perfect to launch Rado’s heartfelt mission to become the “Master of Materials”. This is when the world’s first scratch-proof watch was born, the Rado Diastar 1962.

Celebrating the 60 years of this icon, Rado, known for innovative materials & design, recently launched the 60th anniversary edition of the Diastar Original. The new Diastar Original Anniversary Edition is created and designed in collaboration with the Swiss designer, Alfredo Häberli, along with three new DiaStar Original models that enter the collection with a range of exclusive dial colours. The watch has a strong DNA of its predecessor with subtle but noticeable changes to this edition.

Alfredo Häberli is known for designs that are reduced and frequently inventive. His work is consistent & versatile, avoiding trends and exuding solid and enduring quality that intertwines with materials, technology, and time itself. The choice of the material for the case - hard metal before and now ceramos™️ in the new collection-makes the watch personality indestructible. It is truly a watch for a lifetime. It comes in two strap options, satin brushed stainless steel and an additional textile strap. It is framed by a radial-brushed Ceramos™️ coiffe with polished angles and detailing set over a matching, monochrome stainless-steel case and a sapphire crystal with hexagonal facets that mark six decades since the first Rado Diastar. The new standard DiaStar Original models feature a parallel-stripe-faceted sapphire crystal, polished and brushed H-link stainless-steel bracelet, and a range of different dial colours in blue, grey and green.
