Earthquake Of 7.8 Magnitude Jolts Turkey And Syria, Over 600 Killed

At least 641 persons have been killed in the massive 7.8-magnitude earthquake in Turkey and Syria. Hundreds were still believed to be trapped under rubble, and the toll was expected to rise as rescue workers searched mounds of wreckage in cities and towns across the area.

The quake, felt as far away as Cairo, was centered north of the city of Gaziantep in an area about 90 kilometers (60 miles) from the Syrian border. At least 195 people were killed in both countries, hundreds were injured and the toll was expected to rise.
