It would have been Sachin Tendulkar's debut speech in Parliament if not for opposition uproar and the adjournment of the upper house thereafter.

A Rajya Sabha MP( Member of Parliament) since 2012, the cricket legend was supposed to speak on the right to play and future of sports in India when the Congress party lawmakers started creating ruckus over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's comments on his predecessor Dr. Manmohan Singh during the Gujarat election campaign.

Known as the 'God of Cricket', Tendulkar was nominated to Rajya Sabha in 2012. Often criticised for poor attendance in Parliament, he had moved a Short Discussion Motion on the future of sports in India but the ruckus disrupted him from speaking on the crucial issues.

In April, IANS had reported that while Tendulkar attended 23 of the 348 days since his nomination in 2012, expenditure incurred on him is as high as Rs 58.8 lakh.

Chairman of the House, Venkiah Naidu tried several times to pacify the shouting MPs, before adjourning the House for the day.

"He has earned name for India at the world stage, it is a matter of shame that he was not allowed to speak even when everyone knew it was on today's agenda. Are only politicians allowed to speak?," asked fellow Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachhan.
