India came up with a performance for the ages, rendering Ben Stokes and Co's Bazball useless to notch up their maiden Test win at Edgbaston on Sunday (July 6, 2025). The Shubman Gill-led side thrashed the Poms by a massive 336-run margin to square the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 1-1, going into the third Test at Lord's. While Gill led from the front with a terrific 430-run match aggregate, Akash Deep claimed a 10-wicket match haul and Mohammed Siraj too picked up a fifer in the first innings.

What this display means is that Gill and Gautam Gambhir will have quite the task on their hands, while choosing the playing XI for the third ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 encounter. As Jasprit Bumrah will almost certainly return to action, the winning bowling combination will need to change, and the conditions will also need to be taken into account to decide the number of spinners to go with.

But all that is for later. For now, India rejoice in their historic Birmingham triumph. Here is a look at 10 striking statistics from the second IND vs ENG Test in the five-match series:

1. Gill Youngest India Test Skipper To Win Overseas

All of 25 years and 302 days (as of Sunday), Gill has become the youngest Indian captain to win a Test outside India. He thus breaks a 49-year-old record, as the previous youngest was Sunil Gavaskar (26 years and 202 days) against New Zealand in Auckland in 1976.

2. Biggest Win Margin Away From Home

India's 336-run margin of victory at Edgbaston is indeed their biggest by runs overseas. Their previous biggest was a 318-run win against West Indies at North Sound, Antigua in 2019.

3. Highest Run Aggregate In An India Vs England Test

As many as 1692 runs were scored over the course of the second IND vs ENG Test, the most for a Test between the two teams. It is also the fourth-highest aggregate for a Test match not to end in a draw.

4. Highest Run Aggregate In First Two Tests Of A Series

With the record-breaking tallies of the first two matches, the total runs in the first two Tests at Headingley and Edgbaston ran p to 3365. 5. Joint-Most Ducks In A Test Match

England registered six ducks in their first innings and one in the second, making it seven for the match. That is the joint-most number of ducks in a Test and remarkably, all seven were by different batters, meaning nobody bagged a pair.

6. Akash - Best Match Figures By An Indian In England

Akash's match figures of 10 for 187 at Edgbaston are the best for India in a men's Test in England. Chetan Sharma, who had also reached double-digit scalps at Edgbaston in 1986, is the only other Indian with a ten-for in England.

7. Joint-Most Wickets For India's Opening Bowlers

Akash and Mohammed Siraj together accounted for 17 of the 20 England wickets that fell in Birmingham. The number is the joint most by opening bowlers for India in a Test. 8. Jamie Smith - Third-Most Runs By A Wicketkeeper In A Test

England gloveman Jamie Smith scored 272 runs over two innings, which is the third highest aggregate by a wicketkeeper in a Test match. Only Andy Flower is ahead of him with tallies of 341 against South Africa in 2001, and 287 against India in 2000.

9. Gill First To Cross 250 And 150 In Same Test

With his record-breaking 269 in the first innings followed up by a dazzling 161 in the second, Gill becomes the first batter in the world to surpass the 250-run mark as well as 150-run mark in the same Test. He is also the second Indian to score a double hundred and hundred in the same Test after Sunil Gavaskar.

10. Gill Fifth To Score Double Ton In Tests As Well As ODIs

With his double century in the first innings, Gill becomes the fifth cricketer to amass double hundreds in both ODIs and Tests after Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma, Virender Sehwag and Chris Gayle.
