The Board of Control for Cricket in India reverted the Duleep Trophy to its traditional zonal format for the 2025-2026 season. This move abandons the previous system of India Red, Blue and Green squads.
The tournament now acts as an audition platform for India A hopefuls. Selectors will monitor players ahead of two four-day matches against Australia A in Puducherry during late September and early October.
Central Zone players Ayush Pandey and Aman Mokhade remain in contention for selection. Both players recently featured for the A team in Sri Lanka and will play directly in the semifinal.
East Zone Vs NorthEast Zone
The match presents an opportunity for 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, newly appointed vice-captain of East Zone, to improve his First-Class numbers.
The teenager averages just over 17 across 12 innings for Bihar in eight games, with a top score of 93. East Zone will play their semifinal against either Central or South Zone at the same venue from August 30.
East Zone boasts a strong lineup featuring captain Ishan Kishan and seasoned pacer Mohammed Shami. Abhimanyu Easwaran, Kumar Kushagra, Shahbaz Ahmed and Mukesh Kumar complete the squad.
North Zone Vs West Zone
Kanhaiya Wadhawan becomes the first player from Jammu and Kashmir to captain North Zone. This appointment follows the state's historic 2025-2026 Ranji Trophy triumph.
North Zone will field Ranji final double-centurion Qamran Iqbal, Ayush Doseja, Yash Dhull and Ayush Badoni. They face West Zone, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad and featuring Shardul Thakur, Tanush Kotian and Shams Mulani. West Zone will miss Sarfaraz Khan, who is currently on national duty.
North Zone pacers Gurnoor Brar and Auqib Nabi are in Sri Lanka with the national team, despite the flight from Bengaluru to Colombo taking less than two hours. They risk missing the knockout tournament entirely if North Zone loses the quarterfinal.
