A second year student from Sharda university in Greater Noida died by suicide in her hostel room on Friday, PTI reported citing police officials. Two staff members were taken into custody following a complaint by the student’s family.
"Two staff members from the management of the university have been arrested on the basis of the complaint lodged by the family members of the student," Additional DCP, Greater Noida, Sudhir Kumar, said, reported PTI.
According to the police, they received information about the incident at the university, following which, officials from the Knowledge Park Police station rushed to the spot.
The incident sparked outrage among the students and the victims’ family who protested against the college administration. Students were agitated over Sharda University's administration. They were pacified. The situation is under control. Further action is being undertaken,” Kumar said, according to ANI.
Jyoti Sharma was a BDS student and hailed from Gurugram. Her body has been sent for a post-mortem.
The incident comes days after the suicide note of Sneha Debnath, the 19-year-old Delhi University student whose body was recovered from the Yamuna River near Geeta Colony flyover was found. "It was my decision, fully conscious under no influence. I chose to end my life by jumping from the Signature Bridge, Delhi, early morning of 7th July. I feel like a failure and a burden, and it was getting unbearable to live like this. Hence, I decided to end it," her note read.
